"]Last night I did something I thought I would never do, I put 13 ltrs of petrol in my 1.9 TDi Octavia. I have never felt so stupid and even now I can't understand why I did it, I just suddenly realised the pump handle should be black, not green. I stopped and put the pump back. I didn’t start the engine and pushed it out of the way. Green Flag arrived 3 hours later, (they have never taken that long before) and towed me home, less than half a mile. The driver did try and hard sell me to take it to a garage he knows who will clean the whole thing out for only £170. I declined. This morning I spent on Briskoda, It was raining anyway, and saw how many other people had done it. I also learned how forgiving the Skoda engine is. It took a lot of the fear and embarrassment out of the situation. I opened the cover for the tank pump and took that out as instructed on this most excellent site, and syphoned as much as possible out. I hate the taste of petrol almost as much as diesel. The rest I scooped out with a clean tin can then mopped the rest out with clean lint free cloth. I put it all back together and made several trips to the garage for some diesel in a 5 ltr container to put in the tank. Quite anxious I sat in the car and put the key in the ignition. I read here somewhere that it is good to make sure the plugs are good and hot so I gave them three goes. Turning the key the full way the engine turned and started as if nothing had ever happened. What a wonderful car the Ocky is.[/size]

i'd just have tanked it with diesel and tried my luck - woulda only been a 20% mix at most then

I put £1.50 of unleaded in , felt really lucky that I spotted it so quick, & topped with diesel, no probs ( i have a Fiat 500 at present),

Others have got 10 litres in & topped with diesel with no issues, plenty of threads about doing this.

I've stuck 10 litres of petrol in an old (crap) laguna II, realised then brimmed it.

it was fine - never missed a beat.
