Whats the first thing I should buy for my car?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Well my new Candy White vRS Hatch is due hopefully later this month after having had confirmation of the build last week.

My thoughts are now on a good treatment product for the bodywork to keep the shine and protect it from the nasty british winter.

Dealer obviously went through the treatment products they offer. Which enables the bodywork to be washed with just water.

I don't like them as I enjoy the bucket, sponge and suds traditional method.

I use Meguiars wax on my current motor which brings it up lovely.

Are there any specific must have or avoid at all costs products out there. I saw someone mention Carlack sealant on their thread.

Never even heard of this!?

Cheers in advance.

Dont use a traditional sponge , get a microfiber Mitt , and a large drying towel rather than a chamois .

pay a detailer to do it when you first get it best £200 notes yoou can spend and this will mean its protected properly for your future washing

agree with above, swirltastic if using a sponge.

ive used carlack on mine as it comes well recommended on detailing world for white cars.

If you want to buy an all in kit then the jeffs werkstat is the same stuff and apparently slightly better but I havent tried it yet

Its on offer at the moment here - werkstat

The carlack kit ive got (as I already had it) is carlack which is cheaper but youd need to buy the microfibers and applicators plus it doesnt have the gloss top up stuff

Apparently carlack NSC = werkstat prime

carlack sealant = werkstat jett

I was advised to apply it by the following method which made it silky smooth :)

Clay car (you might want to read up on this and it may not be necessary on a new car (mine did need it))

Apply carlack NSC/prime with applcator.

let dry for 30 mins,

with another applicator apply the sealant over the top.

dry to a haze (couple of mins)

buff off with a microfibre or terry cloth

You can then layer the sealant/jett on if you want to get more coats on.

The car is then easier to wash and dry with a drying towel as the water sheets off.

Have a read up on the two bucket method too on polished bliss's website.

PS, im by no means an expert, got all the above from reading and advice from other forums re white cars :)

Just bought a lambs wool type mitt this week on eBAY. So thats a start.

I always use two buckets anyway and my existing wash mitt is a microfibre one.

Stu your car looks stunning in those pictures. I think your photography skills also help! :giggle::thumbup:

cheers ed

sounds like youre on the right track already then :)

This was the left side after one layer or NSC and sealant
