Interestingly the manual that came with my car - dated 05.05 - has different text to the downloadable PDF manual - dated 05-07:

My manual states:

Operational faults

Automatic closing or opening does not operate

If the battery of the car has been disconnected and then reconnected, the automatic closing and opening function does not operate. The system must be activated. Proceed as follows in order to re-establish the function:

• turn the key in the lock of the driver door into the closing position and hold it there until all of the windows are closed,

• release the key,

• once again insert the key and turn it into the closing position for about 3 seconds.

The PDF manual states:

Operational faults

Electrically operated power windows do not operate

If the battery of the car has been disconnected and then reconnected, the electrically operated power windows do not operate. The system must be activated. Proceed as follows in order to re-establish the function:

• turn the key in the lock of the driver door into the closing position and hold it there until all of the windows are closed,

• release the key,

• Once again insert the key and turn it into the closing position for about 3 seconds.

So this suggests that at some time during the 2 year interval the electronics were changes so that on later cars the windows don't operate at all? Why otherwise would they change the text I wonder?

I couldn't see one either...

Turning the key in the lock to close all the windows sounds like the auto feature that VAG cars have when you get out and leave windows open, you can turn the lock and hold it to close all electric windows.

I disconected my battery a couple of weeks ago and my auto close (i.e. the second stage on the push or pull of the window switches didnt work), after approx a week it started working, I didnt go through any procedures involving locking the car via the drivers door lock or cycling of any windows via.

So I dont agree that that is the procedure for reseting electric window switches after battery reset.

Wouldnt it be more likely that running the windows from fully open position to fully closed position would let learn its max travel positions? i.e. its end stops?

I personally didnt do this on my car, but I have done it on other manufacturers cars that I have tested in my job testing prototype vehicles.

You're confusing issues here. What you states is also covered in the manual, and also works:

Window convenience operation

You can open and close the electrically powered windows as follows when unlocking and locking the vehicle (just closing of the sliding roof).

Opening windows with the key

– Turn the key in the lock of the driver door into the opening position and hold it until all the windows are open.

Closing windows with the key

– Turn the key in the lock of the driver door into the closing position and hold it there until all of the windows are closed.

You can interrupt the opening or closing operation of the windows immediately by releasing the key.

... but that's different to the issue with resetting the windows.

The method I posted is the one in the car's manual and the one used by Skoda dealers having seen a dealer do it when I complained my windows weren't working properly (though in fact for other reasons - turned out then to be a loose fuse).

Somehow your car rectified itself without using the standard procedure.

I tried that on mine when I was having problems (having read it here on the forum) and it didn't work - but the method outlined in the manual did

Here's the STICKY TOPIC - on another forum section

The way I have always used to reset is : lower the window fully, then raise it fully, release the switch then hold it in the UP position for ten seconds. All this done with ignition on of course. Window should now work normally. Repeat with rest of windows. Easy way to avoid having to reset all the various bits is to use a "keeper" plugged into cigarette lighter.

That worked perfectly thanks.

  • 9 years later...

I've just reset using the key in the lock method. Thanks.

  • 3 months later...

Key in the lock method worked for me on 2004 Mk1 Fabia VRS after battery change recently.

Thanks
