coil problems

Featured Replies

hi everyone......ive got a problem with my felicia pick up 1.3 petrol (2000/x) i bought it last thursday and drove it 120 miles home with no problems, next day drove accros town and it started running flat, running on two cylinders,i traced the fault to the coil pack replaced this with a second hand one and it seamed to solve the problem..however a few miles down the road it cut out refusing to start...i walked home and took the old coil back to the car fitted it and it started straight away(on two cylinders)and was able to get the car home.....have i been unlucky with the second hand coil or is there another problem causing the coil to fail....my local car parts supplier has a new coil for £68 but iam afraid to fit it in case it blows again....would appreaciate any help with this....best regards paul

A secondhand coil pack could be faulty, of course, but given what's happened it could be something else instead - perhaps dodgy wiring or an ECU fault (although the latter is rare). What are the spark plugs like?

If you need a new coil pack, I have one that I no longer need (rally car no longer uses standard coil packs), PM me as it'll be less than £68!

hi djaychela...thanks for your reply, yes iam thinking the same.....the pick-ups done 82k and has full skoda service history from new,car is super clean both outside and in including under the bonnet, everything under the bonnet looks good no bodge repairs, wiring as it left the factory and spark plugs new with good spark when i swap to working side of coil......

the second hand coil was sold to me un-tested from a back street brakers,it did run fine when first started, but i dont know how long it had been on the shelf and it was very oily and grubby......

iam very interested in your coil pack (iam going to need one at some point)the thought of putting a new £70 one on and it failing just dose not appeal to me and of course i`ll be no further down the line to solving the problem.

please let me know how much you want for the coil and also where abouts you are,i might be able to collect if your close,

huge thanks for your reply/help....best regards paul

i`ll add some pictures of the pick-up on the introduction page soon...................

update to coil problem........djaychela has helped me out with a replacemant coil...just waiting on royal mail to deliver....was thinking of getting the pick-up checked out with one of those plug-in fault finder`s before i fit the new coil as dont want that one to fail....does anyone know of a good garage / workshop that could do this for me ?....close to high wycombe,bucks....best regards paul

If it was only running on two cylinders (as opposed to not running at all) then it wouldn't be the crank pickup. The coil pack should be with you soon, so you can give that a go. I'd check the plugs as well, they could be fouled or point you in the right direction.

ive fitted the coil and the pick-up is now purring on all four cylinders.....ive also found a small one man garage who`s going to link the felicia up to his computor and see if theres any other problems...just to make sure...its booked in for 3 pm on friday, for a very reasonable £25...bargain....update to come on friday evening.....

Nice

Bear in mind you can probably get a VAG-COM cable and use the free version to do that code reading yourself for less money than he's charging you (if you have a suitable laptop)

Glad that the coilpack has done the trick.

just got back from the garage.......the pick up ran well there and back no problems....plugged into shaun`s electronic gadget revealed a dodgy injector on no 2 cylinder...we cleaned the connector and gave it a squirt of good old wd 40 and all was fine....i need to clock up some miles now to see if this has solved the problem......watch this space.........will add some pictures soon
