Start up 'Thump'!

Featured Replies

I am getting a big thump when I start the engine - but not every time. Car runs OK.. Have recently had clutch and flywheel changed but I was having this problem before then. Typically when I took it to a garage they couldn't replicate the noise!!!! Happens maybe 1 in 10 starts. Garage checked all connections etc, exhaust ets but couldn't find any obvious source. Anyone got any ideas??

How about your engine/gearbox dogbone mounts by any chance.. get someone to start the car and have a look with the bonnet open to see if it 'kicks' could be a possibility.

Mine started giving a really hard thump as it started, felt as though the engine was trying to fire before top dead centre.

I knew the battery was getting weak, so i replaced it with a new one and low and behold it stopped lol.
