Pictures of pistons through spark plug hole. Looks O.K.?

fully charged my battery lasts around 7 miles....

Have you tried new leads, as they can sometimes get small hairline cracks which you cant notice by eye alone, even if you bought a set, tested and if they don't change anything, take back and get your money back!!

If you are meaning the ignition leads, ie HT leads, the OP's car has a BBY engine and so has COPs (individual coils mounted directly on each plug) - so there are no HT leads.

ah, my bad, didnt read/look properly, just saw he had a 1.4 16v and presumed it was the same as mine, but mines is the 100hp engine....

Note to self, read threads thoroughly before posting :giggle:

Hi bnud3

Try to perform compression test (no-professional manometer is not expensive). This is how I found out that one valve is stuck open. Thrust ECU, if it displays fault follow this fault, if there is no faults, then engine control system is ok, check engine itself (fuel supply already tested). I believe that one of cylinders is inop.

I am going to remove cylinder head, but before I would like to perform cooling system pressure test with and without liquid before and after head gasket replacement to compare results. Now I am looking for test set (hand pump with adapter). I am not shore what to do with hydraulic tappets: replace or disassemble and clean them.

Hi bnud3

If battery runs out of capacity, then during engine start all dashboard lights start flashing with 1 second (1Hz) interval. You will notice that for shore. I have experienced that in winter at -27 and again when battery died completely.

I strongly recommend You to check compression. Another thing You can do is to remove valve cover and by manually turning crankshaft observe valve movement.

throwing my 2 cents

any sensor related problem will show on the scan, so for now i'm ruling out sensors, that being said, theses are a couple of ideas mechanical related

I Think it Might Be;

Doggy chain/valve timing off

Loss of compressiong / blonw head gasket

check how you car is breathing (any obstruction on the intake path headed to the buttefly)

Masive Air leak (brake servo, manifold joint/gasket)

fuel injectors might want to clean them

if air filter is 1 1/2 years old, it has to be replaced, not cleaned with air (especialy if at any point it got moist).

so start your car without the intake tube conected to the manifold and accelerate (dont let it idle) if it doesnt die, and smoothes out as rpm increases is an air leak, if it runs but very rough then it might be injectos, if it becomes more rough as rpm increase then is timing chain and if it coughf like crazy then is blow head gasket.

if it runs fine then is an obstruction of the intake path.

i'm no expert or mechanics, but i do fiddle a lot and i realy hope this helps pin point the problem.... and hang in there, the forum is an amazing place and will help you all the way.
