Fire extinguisher

Featured Replies

I've booked the ferry & hotels to go & watch the Rallye du Condroz based in Huy Belgium this should give the new vRS a good run, as a fire ex is compulsary in Belgium just wondered if anyone has found a good place to fit one?

i think they normally have it under the passenger seat. as per accessories brochure. One side (near door) is easy to pull off, but the other side seems like it's screwed?

I thought it was retained under the drivers seat!

It may be worth looking at aftermarket versions though, to see if they are better VFM as i think Skoda have a hefty mark-up!!!

Unless the rules have changed you only need the fire extinguisher if they are law in the country the car is registered in.

So a Belgian registered car needs one but a UK registered car driving in Belgium does not.

By all means buy one, but once a car has caught fire a tiny little hand held extinguisher wont be much help (even the fully plumbed in ones fitted to cars in motorsport have little effect.

On the sites I've looked it it says all visitors to Belgium cars must carry a fire extinguisher?

There does indeed seem to be some conflicting advice, (the RAC state you need an extinguisher) but

euroadlegal.co.uk state:

Essential Safety Equipment

  • Warning Triangle
  • Headlamp converters
  • GB plate (see note 1)

Recommended Safety Equipment (by Belgium and/or EUroadlegal.co.uk)

  • First aid kit
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Spare bulbs (see note 2)
  • Reflective Vest
  • Torch

The AA's recomendations:

"Other rules/requirements in Belgium:

First-aid kit and fire extinguisher recommended as their carriage is compulsory for Belgian-registered vehicles."

you are more likely to get a tug if yo fail toadapt your headlights!

Some countries you HAVRE to have a warning triangle, even TWO, and spare bulbs, just as a visitor! Makes a mockery of the way Foriegn drivers flout our road rules!!!

BTW, saw a handy little plastic screen thingy in Halfords recently that you apply to the windscreen, like a tax disc holder, that reminds you to drive on the CORRECT side of the road... As it is see-through, you flip it over for left or right side driving!!!
