After all this waiting for loans to come through I'm finally in the position to buy a vRS. I thought great I have the money so I'll pay a visit to the local dealer and order one. I got there but the guy I've bee dealing with so far wasn't in, so I spoke to another salesman, who to be honest was crap. I said to him that I'd rang up Jewsons in Oxford and been in to see All Electric in Halesowen to find the best price for a cash sale and asked what the best he can do. We sat down and discussed some figures. After him tapping away on his calculator he came up with

There is a Skoda dealer near Kidderminster which is also worth a look.

Which salesman was it at halesowen?

I didn't get any discount on my Fab vRS (although I did avoid the price hike that came with the facelift of the other Fabia models). Trade-in was only average. Usually dealers are lying when they say that if you don't buy a car at the price they say, then the next customer will, but the Fab vRS is such a success that it's probably true. As for the difference in

Which town was this in?

Pilling in Milton Keynes, he was the short fat guy, not sure of his name but he's not good at his job. The weirdest thing is that just last week I spoke to a guy called Edwin and he offered me

Correct me if i'm wrong but it's my understanding that dealers have about a 14% margin to play with with new cars, although as already mentioned they all want to exceed targets and release a greater % on all the cars they have sold. So if the target is 'n' the 'nth' car may be sold a at loss as it will mean the target is reached and more money is given to them for evry car they have sold.

Also dealers make money on finance packages as well. They may get the finance deal at say 4% and then charge the customer 8% so cash prices may not be as attractive to them

My experiences of Pillings in MK is that they are discourteous and totally uninterested. You would have thought that they would at least make the minimum amount of effort given that they are a new outlet. I tried to get some warranty work done there and in the end just gave up, they don't deserve the business in my opinion, take your cash elsewhere.

I heard this as well and they'll be more flexible if they are making money on the finance as well as the car. As someone else said, if you're a cash buyer try one of the internet brokers and see what they can do :D

Chris

Dealers to be honest dont make money on the cars, they make it on meeting targets. I could be wrong though. Normally when anoth dealer offers more off a car than an other dealer it's because they need to sell more to reach their targets, not because one is not telling the truth about his mark-up rate.

Dealers do get abit of a raw deal, they have to meet so many stadards and targets that it's sometime hard to make money.

Though if your good at it then you will do very well indeed.

Shop around more and remember you are the one buying, if you dont like the deal go elsewhere. I didn't get any discount on mine but what I did get was a good P/X and shot of a really bad car.

Jewsons in Oxford do not have a great reputation.

I'll have to do a search and see which dealers are worth visiting.

Cheers for all the info guys.

WhiteQuay in Reading were very helpful when we bought,I know Kenny isn't there any more but with luck they can still provide a quality service

SPECIALIST SKODA IN ABERDEEN ARE EXCELLENT AND YOUR CAR WILL BE HALF RUN IN BY THE TIME YOU GET HOME  WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK FOR :)

Dont mean to sh@t on anyone's bonfire but I still believe I got the best deal ever on Briskoda, not the update shape admittadly but 54 reg, only 6 weeks old with 1k miles on - elderly man. Bought it from Wisbech in Cambridgeshire (Ford garage) which was a bit of a trek for me I have to admit, I traded in my Mondeo TDCi Zetec S which was well modified to say the least and had been ragged from day 1 and had a directline (insurance co) repair on it for 4k. I walked out with the vRS admittadly with no extras for

Good stuff, I've ordered mine see my other thread ;)

What warranty work was this?

Also if you are dissatisfied with a dealer then complain to a manager. The only way a new dealer will learn if someone is not happy and know if something needs changing is if you say something.
