Advice on a ebay dumpvalve?

Featured Replies

Ok i have been after a new dumpvalve for my vRS for a while and spotted this on ebay: Forge Dump Valve FMCL007p

My link

Hope that link worked

Anyway just wanted to know your thoughts on this type before i go ahead and order it? i have read that forge dump valves is whats normally used on these VAG engines but not sure if this one will be ok, also wondering if anyone has ever done a step by step guide on replacing a dumpvalve? i would be fairly confident on doing this myself would just need a few pointers on how to do it correctly.

Regards

Paul

the link dont work mate

its a 5 minute job to replace as it just fits exactly where your standard plastic one is, and the 007p is probably the most commonly used to be fair as its a very good dump valve

Its what I have on my car. Does the job.

Could save yourself some $ and buy a CompBrake version. Its a new product, so not seen any feedback on them.

Yeah thats the one i am looking at, i think i shall go ahead and order one,

Stupid question time again where abouts is the dumpvalve on these engines? I take it its fairly self explanatory to replace it?

Sorry for the stupid questions i am just geting used to these newer engines as i have spent the last 4 years driving older cars.

Am i right in thinking these dump valves will not make that horrible "ttssshhhh" :D noise that subarus make?lol

I am after something that is just more realiable than the standard crappy plastic one

Cheers

you will get a bit more noise than the standard dump valve but not much

I've got the compbrake one fitted to mine and it is really well made, sounds really good too. Would recommend them to anyone without any hesitation. Only thing you don't get with them is the grease, you do get two springs like the forge one tho

Whats the difference between the forge 007p dump valve and the forge split r valve? apart from the extra 40 odd quid for the split r.

Split R dumps some to atmostphere so is a bit noisier and can be tricky to set up.

Just to stop any confusion the above pics might look a little different as N249 has been bypassed.

Ok i have just ordered the one from comp brake ill let use know when i fit it how i get on, as you say about it coming without the grease will i need to get some mate?

Raf_75, mine came with the grease already in it. We bought at the same time so I thought yours would have done too :S . Oh well, you can use the red grease which forge use in theirs (not sure what it's called)

My only advice is to put the stiffer spring in, as the soft one is softer than the oem one.

Also, they don't fit under the plastic engine cover without cutting the cover, or mounting the valve sideways.

also wondering if anyone has ever done a step by step guide on replacing a dumpvalve? i would be fairly confident on doing this myself would just need a few pointers on how to do it correctly.

I used the audi TT guide on forges website which you can find on the info page for the valve only difference was I needed three jubilee clips not two like it says I expect its the same procedure for the compbrake

Its made a big difference to the feel of acceleration on the turbo especially at higher revs. Just make sure you use the right spring for the psi your turbo is running. Green for normal and yellow for mapped with Forge. Too stiff a spring and the air goes back in the wrong way when you let your foot of the throttle. Dunno about compbrake. The forge one fits under the engine cover fine and its not recommended to fit it sideways.

I got this info on the forge website and from fitting it myself.

oh yeh lol it was in it lol remember now was thinking of a sachet or something

I was lucky as my cover was already cut and i put the stronger spring in too.

Was gonna say.....

Thought mine was a second hand one for a moment then.. :o

Forge do 2 versions. One has a right angled vac line on top, so fits under the cover. The other has a straight connection.

From experience, the bosch oem one rubs on the engine cover, and with the forge and combrake ones being longer, they will catch.

Thing the right angled one ens in PA.

Does the comp brake come with the two springs mate? also how much do you need to cut off the top engine cover? As someone else says you arent meant to fit them at a angle.

Thanks again

should have gone direct to Forge and asked them for a price, you may have been surprised

My forge fitted under the cover without issue.

You can relocated the dump valve - forge do a kit, or you could diy it ... or could dump the cover ( its a PITA TBH )

If the CompBrake ones do come with tuning springs thats a real bonus - they're extra $ from forge :wonder:

got a split r on mine,as long as u dont have a cai,u will not notice any noise, fitting a cai makes it a right noisey bugger.

Yeah, the compbrake comes with 2 springs.

With it being just a valve, I can't see what difference it makes putting on sideways. Whichever way you put it, the boost pressure is trying to push the piston up anyway. Having it sideways means that the pressure is acting directly on the bottom of the piston, rather than sideways on, meaning that the o rings may last longer. Works fine anyway.

As for cutting the cover off, you need to remove the bulge at the top right corner.

Did it make any difference in noise mate? I am not expecting it to be extremly loud but a improvement on standard would be great.
