My Elegance estate is nearly 6 yrs old and I was going to wait till the brand new Fabia to come out in 2 years time and I was going to buy it, but I cannot wait that long. Should I wait and save up the money for the new car or buy a used 1.4TDI for 9 grand?. My car runs ok, got new tyres last year,cambelt due in 2 yrs . It cost me about £350 a year to cover all parts from Warranty Direct plus the RAC/Skoda road recovery and the usual out goings tax, insurance etc etc.

As above I bought a Pre Facelift Fabia 1.4 TDI but If I had waited a few weeks longer I could have purchased a ex demo facelifted Fabia

My wifes white '10 plate' 1.2 Sport is being traded in at Keiths in Bradford in the first week in November

Its totally unmarked and only 4000 miles

Neither would I as it's not enough of a saving over a new one. Think the Greenline II (for example) was about 11k with the VAT off.

I also (personally) think the 1.6TDI is a better engine for the car if you have the choice.

If you can hold on for a new one I would. But sometimes you get the itch for a change and it has to be scratched. ;)

What if the all new Fabia is awful though? I havent seen any pics of its design yet, and it might not appeal to you.

Good idea about the 1.6TDI, The reason why i am waiting for a new car is I plan to keep the car for about 6-7 years so the new the model the better.

definate wait until you saved up for a new facelift model,I have just ordered one and its a pretty little car 1.6tdi cr 105bhp,much better engine than the old 1.4tdi cleaner ,smoother and cheaper to run going by the stats,the 1.4tdi was and still is a great little engine as is the 1.9pd but the new generation engines have proven there worth allready in the A3 and the polo's,I am getting rid of my superb 2 for the fabia ive driven the 75bhp and to be honest the ride was just as good as the superb and when I get the 105bhp it will be faster and more economical.

hold on to your dosh and save up for the new better fabia:giggle:

I actually prefer the shape of the Mk 1 Fabia. If I could have got the Greenline in that chassis with the same equipment I would have had it.

The pre facelift Mk 2 I own is ok to look at, but my personal opinion is that aesthetically its a step back. For me the purchase of the Greenline was practical rather than style driven.

If what has happened to the look of the Fabia continues with the current trend I say buy now before they really ruin it :giggle:

Having owned both I would have to agree with you!

When the mk2 came out I found the front end too dumpy. When the mk2 estate came out I was disappointed with its rear as well. Within the family we have both a mk1 and mk2 estate, both with alloys and roof rails, and the mk1 is acknowledged by everyone as the better looker.

As a mk1 TDi driver none of the mk2’s appealed, and I test drove all of them. The engineering had barely moved forward, and as you say the aesthetics had gone backwards.

Then the 1.2TSi FL arrived and clearly things had moved forwards. I finally had a reason to buy one now, but being a serial test driver I just had to drive the VRS that was also in the showroom. Oh dear, another leap forwards and I had to have one of these!

In your position I would not wait for the new car due in a couple of years, or maybe it might be a bit longer than that actually. Why wait for a car that currently you don't know anything about and that you might not like. If you want to change then just do it, would be my advice. In two years or so the cost of the a new motor will be very much more expensive. Just my two pence worth.

Oh...just one other thing. I note you don't actually NEED to change. You just WANT to change. Fine, but you did buy a Skoda and they do last and last. I bought my Fabia Estate diesel with the intention of keeping it at least 10 years. I've experienced nothing to make me change my mind. In fact, the wife and me were saying just how pleased with are with the car and that we may keep it longer than that. The 1422cc diesel easily covers 250,000 miles or much more before it needs spannering!
