New Octavia Factory Fitted Option Incomplete - Thoughts Plse

Featured Replies

I'm very new to this form, so be gentle:

Ordered an Octavia 1.4TSI Elegance beginning August, it arrived Saturday (8th Oct) . I was told the factory fitted options were as ordered - a spare wheel and wood decor. I arranged to view the car today pre pdi. The supplier I must say has been pretty good. Needless to say I was pretty pleased and looking forward to taking delivery.

Even wrapped in protective film the car looked good. Inside very smart it was too, that was until I noticed that the wood decor hadn't been fitted to the drivers door. The slaes person (very agreeable) told me that this would be rectified before I took delivery on Thusrday, 14th.

A phone call later tonight said it was most unlikely for the decor to be fitted prior to delivery.

I live quite some way from the dealership. The dealership have offered to collect my car when the missing wood decor arrives. Leave a car for me then return my car when the decor is fitted. I'm not to keen on my new car being driven by someone esle.

Other opitons are, although not offered or asked for is for dealer to loan me a car until the new car is 'up to spec'.

What would readers do?

Thoughts and advice most welcome. Thanks in advance.

Dont take it until it's correct. It's what you ordered and paid for.

If you don't want anyone else to drive your new car then tell them you will wait until it is finished to collect it.

It stays at the dealers then and shouldn't go anywhere. When you do collect it, it is all new and complete.

Take them up on their offer.

Its clearly not the dealers fault

Its only a small piece of trim..I would drive it until the part is available and let them come and get it.

Nothing wrong with them driving your car at all IMO

Let us know how you get on

So much for Skoda's thorough end of line checks.

Kind of worrying what other issues they can miss when a brief look in the car can't even identify a length of door trim missing!

What was in its place? Was it just missing altogether or was there a normal silver strip there instead?

Take them up on their offer, And express how extremely disappointed you are, And see if they'll give you the first service free!

As a gesture of goodwill!

In its place was the normal silver strip.

Very many thanks for all the replies. Much appreciated and gives me a few things to think about.

I should be speaking with the dealer sometime this morning. and will let you all know the outcome.

Thanks again.

First the dealer is saying all the right things & its not his fault, its worth a good relationship with any dealer in case you get more concerning problems later so you need to be fair but firm.

Firsty I would ask when the part is due in, Skoda are usually incredibly good on parts, if its only a couple of days it wont hurt to leave the car with the dealer, any longer & personally I would take the car & trust the dealer.

Personally Ive found Skoda quality to be very good on the few we have had compared to other cars we run & any niggles are quickly sorted if you have a decent dealer.

Collect car but only on the agreement that you will bring the car to them for fitting while you wait. As compo you will get a tank of fuel and a free service. If they don't play ball, don't accept the car, your in a strong position but the moment you accept the car your in their hands so get it all agreed before. I'd never let them rag, cough, drive my car!

get the argeement in writting that they will fix the issue. I had damage to a peugeot 206 I picked up (PDI guy opened another car door onto my new car) pointed it out and he said sorry, we will have that sorted. Never did get it sorted as this was soon forgotten! Gave up in the end as it was the least of the problems with the car.

Hope you get it sorted but dont feel you have to accept of feel pushed into anything

I go with take it yourself & wait.

Wouldnt be too harsh on compo, as if it comes to something serious, then the dealer can play hardball too. ( live by the sword, die by the sword - seems to be true, specially with business today )

I would keep a note of what happened, so that if you do need ammo for a difficult time, then SUK would have a hard time arguing.

I'd be tempted to leave the car with the dealer until it is complete.

There's always a lot less motivation to get things like this fixed after the customer has paid and taken the car away than before.

Wood trim?!! Gadzooks man - what was going through your mind when you picked that option?!! emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Personal taste of course, but I reckon they did you a favour :p

...could be the word of the day ?

This was my decision.

I must say though, I sympathise with the dealer. Must have been just as awkward for them. Praise where praise is due they're getting a complete panel delivered and it shouldn't take longer than 12 days before I pick the car up. They've also phoned when they said they would and are keeping me informed thoughout.

Thanks again for everyone's advice. (The wood decor was my dear wife's choice - had to let her have some say).

.. and it shouldn't take longer than 12 days before I pick the car up.

12 days!!! Did they tell you they had to re-grow the tree to get a good match?

Less than a couple of weeks isn't long to wait to pick it up "fully loaded".

Al I can add is if 12 days is a pain dont buy an Abarth, I know of someone who waited 6 weeks for a wheel & we waiated 3 for an aircon unit, in both cases cars were off off the road

Got to love the little 500 Abarth though.

Hmmm being a natural pessimist i would be tempted to ask if that door is original, a lot easier to fit wrong replacement door after production than to fit completely wrong trim on 1 door during production. But as i say i am a pessimist.

Update.

Picked up my brand new Octy on Wednesday afternoon.

Delighted. Everything was as it should have been, and the dealer certainly did look after me. A complete new inner door panel was fitted.

Thanks to everyone for your help and views.

Appreciated

Glad you're all sorted. I had the same thing with lone cloth seat squab in a full leather interior!

I took the car anyway (after much deliberation and discussion) and a new leather seat cover was fitted about three weeks later!

Do you have any photos of the wood-trimmed interior? Would be interested to see how it looks.

I haven't no. Give me a few days and I'll see what I can do.(When the rain stops).

Im a bit of a technophob so I'll need to find out how to insert a photo into the body of a posting.

I'm very pleased with it.

No worries. Must admit I haven't posted any pics yet either!

Would love to show my vRS off too. As and when I get time to work it out!
