1.9 tdi engine buzz/rattle

Featured Replies

I'm sure this must have been covered before but I'm not having much luck with the briskoda search engine!

The problem is on my 2002 Octavia 1.9 tdi 110 estate, between around 1500 and 3000 revs when the engine is not under heavy load it makes a buzz/rattle from the engine bay.

Hard to describe. It nearly sounds normal but I drive other diesels which don't have such a prominent buzz/rattle. I think it's when the engine is not under load. Hope it's not dual mass fly wheel!

Can any one tell me what might be wrong?

Its done 100000 miles, full dealer service history

maybe a failing tensioner on the aux drive belt?

100k, not quite run in yet, my 2001 110 is on 172k-ish

When was the last time the cambelt was changed? Did it have the full kit or just the belt?

Check the heatshields. They can vibrate if they work loose.
