Quick Question: how much is a new wing off the shelf?

Featured Replies

As above.

How much roughly does a Fabia wing cost in black, or primer or whatever they come in off the shelf?

Trying to decided to to fix to replace.

another Question, if ya know.... will it be obvious the wings been changed once the bonnets up?

Thanks

 A quick google found this, so looks like £45 (presumably plus VAT and postage). I would guess the dealer might be a little bit more expensive, but you might be pleasantly suprised - give them a call

If you know what to look for yes - they all come with a date stamp on them, so if one wing is different to the other (or to the year of manufacturer) it's a safe bet they have been changed due to accident damage.

Well, the place up the road will almost certainly get the work so I'll pop up and have a word.. they originally advised against changing the wing but I'll ask again as if the whole wings gonna need paint it might as well be a new part. Thanks for the find... Didn't think it'd be that easy. p.s. hope your enjoying the Canon ;)

I meant more Jonny Fore-Court having a look.. or even an AA inspection.. Would it be obvious the bolts along the top had been off and on for example? Or if it's a good job would you have to compare date stamps like you say?

I don't wanna change the wing if it'll look better than a repair but be more obvious.

This is the best picture I have to hand of the damage (learnt something about winter driving that day, let me tell you).. i know you can't really see it, but the whole thing will just give you an idea of where it is.

Don't threat Simon.. wheels long been back in the right place! :)

That links for a "insurance approved" copy part though...

OEM wing from skoda or the like is 70 - 90 depending where you go. Skoda are 90.

Should I go with a pattern part or is that asking for trouble on a body part?

TPS are 62 so that's a bit better for an OEM wing. And they're just up the road :D

right, cars booked in, but for the existing arch to be repaired.

turns out, when he said "keyed and painted" all over the wing.. he meant just new top coat.. not full paint.. I guess it helps blend if part of a panels painted but all of the top coats re-newed. The cars had 2 machine polishes so thicker top coast aint a bad bonus really,. if only on the wing.

To fit a new wing (excluding the wing it's self) was £320 as apparently it's more like 10 hours once you get into stripping the old wing off, blending paint and lining up the new panel correctly..

So I've opted for a fix as they seem quite certain they can get the crisp crease line back around the inside of the arch lip... and also I'm much more comfortable with the idea of the wing keeping most it's factory paint..

It goes in on Monday and I'll be able to collect it on Tuesday! Result.... I'll repost back and get a good "before" and "after" shot for people...

Now maybe next year I'll buy a used rear bumprer and get them to fit it if the wing comes back good. Then my car'll be 100% on the body work again.. rather than 98% (once the wings fixed)
