Changing main beam bulbs,

Featured Replies

one of my main beams went I went to halfords told them my make and model they gave me bulb

Got plastic cover off and the bulb out but couldn't get the bulb off the actual connector? How do i do this?

Even if I had got it off the new bulb had what looks like an additional wire like it's meant to connect to something else so I'm assuming halfords gave me the wrong bulb there £20 each but it was buy one get one free.

Also seen one of the clips for the light cover has snapped off so could be leaking water in.

Annoyed I got so far but failed at the last hurdle

What car is it for ,your clio, as your sig suggests?

Still no info on how to get the bulb off, guess u don't just pull it off lol maybe u do :-/ I bought wrong bulbs anyway

wiggle it off.. vertically (up and down). Its a straight forward socket and spade connection. Ideally do NOT unclip the bulb first :)

it should be a brown and yellow wire? H7..

That'll be why im confused I got the wrong bulb.

Thanks for all your help I'll sort it tomorrow.

I'm a newbie at playing with cars I'm going to buy a haynes manual and try and learn stuff

Main = H3 - the one with the lead

Dip = H7

Note some online bulb sites wrongly list an H1 for the main...

unless it's been moved it was posted in the mk1 Fabia sub-forum, or did different age/spec mk1 Fabias require different bulbs?

The point being made was that the OP's signature originally said "Clio 182 cup" (as revealed by Google's cache) hence the confusion...

You might not know that you shouldn't hold halogen bulbs by the glass then, they should only be handled by the metal part. Otherwise they blow pretty quick and you'll be getting more practise changing them again! If you have already touched the glass, you can clean it with meths and a lint free cloth.

Unplug then remove. The metal clip holding the bulb in

will help keep it still while you do this. Support the bit of the

bulb at the rear with a finger or two then as described above give the

black plug a wiggle whilst pulling away from the bulb and you'll find

it a bit easier.

Also using this method theres no chance of touching the glass while you

remove or refit bulbs. When refitting clip the bulb into position first then

reconnect once in place.

If you do touch the glass by mistake, clean the glass on the bulb with a little

white spirit or better still, isopropyl alcohol (CD cleaner)

But you do not know that when it comes as a new topic, on the right

Yes, this is what the Fabia Mk1 has with normal (Halogen) bulbs.

If you have factory fitted Xenons, then I think Main beam is H7, dipped D2S (Xenon). I think the Fabia Mk2 (and facelifed version) are different which might be the confusion.

I found the sidelight bulbs the most difficult to remove. I'm sue you are are glad you did not bay a Renault Megan as they are a real nightmare to change.
