Help with options, premium sound vs heated screen

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have to order my superb estate SE on Monday and have a budget of approx £400 for options. I was settled with getting the upgraded sound and dimming mirror but after reading negative posts I'm wondering if my money would be better spent on heated seats + screen.

Can anyone say the sounds is definitely worth the price? Anyone got both and couldn't live without one?

Any help is appreciated

The upgraded sound system you will use every time you get in the car, but the heated windscreen ans seats only about 3-4 months of the year ........ but it will be 'kin freezing when you do, so no more scraping of the (front at least) windows.

I opted for a heated screen (seats were std) but didn't bother with the sound system, not on the grounds of cost though, I just thought the std system was good enough for me.

It depends on where you live. I don't know the british weather. But here in scandinavia i would choose the "warmer" package ;). The worst thing is to sit in your new car and freeze like hell.

The upgraded Sound System is not great, but it's sure good enough for most people (including the normal commuter music nerd).

Go for the heated screen. Last winter mine was a godsend. There is no guarantee that this winter will be as severe but who knows...........

Sound system upgrade is flawed due to poor speakers/door trim but i love my music in the car and would not be without it also.

What is the standard stereo like? acceptable?

I have found that diesel vehicles take ages to warm up. I've gone for the heated screen as over the last few winters even if I get the front windscreen clear before I set off, on very cold mornings it simply ices up again. I suppose it doesn't help that the car is kept in the open on an east facing drive. It is only about 5 mtinutes into a journey that the blowers on the inside of the screen become effective.

Similarly after a week last winter of completely frozen washer jets, for £35 I've gone for heating on those too.

I considered the premium sound upgrade, but it isn't exactly a cheap optiion and opinions on here seem to vary from so-so to negative. If after having the car for a while I find the sound system isn't up to it I might look at aftermarket third-party options such as better speakers etc.

Best regards

David

It's "standard". Good to listen to the radio on, less than ok to listen to music on.

Hi

I had an Audi A6 with alcantara/leather seats which were not heated and by god did i regret it

never again will i have and car with leather or alcantara/leather with out heated seats

its nice on the lower back when warmed on a cold morning

thats a point which part of the seat is heatedon the Superb , on my last CRV the base was heated only but on the new CRV the back is as well

i smoke so wouldnt go for the heated screen as it bakes the tobaco on the screen (had it on an old mondeo) and is a pain to clean and i belive it can affect the reception of a mobile (?)

Seats and screen every time, you can get a good aftermarket system for £400, and it will be better than the ubit Skoda fit, don't be led by the price tags, those standard radio unit's that all fit are normally mid road multi buy's, check Pioneer,Alpine,Kenwood and Sony for a new unit, avoid the lookalike one Zenec, Zenec is Binatone, say no more.
