YETI Production

Featured Replies

Hi

How do Skoda determine in what order to produce the YETI?

By order date?

By colour?

By model?

By left or right hand drive?

Availability of parts?

Drawing lots?

Does anybody know?

Just curious!

I am really looking forward to the answers to this one!

My observations are that it seems to depend on what engine and gearbox is available at the time. 1st in queue for 1.4tsi, and you get it quick. Several months in to 140DSG production you wait ages.

I'm sure they have a more logical way of working it out, maybe how many are ordered same spec, same colour etc, then all get made at same time would make sense to me.

So, lets all change our orders to the same engine, gearbox colour and spec........like lemmingsemoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Are you trying to tell me something Mike?

I do think you could be onto something there though. It seems the wait for a diesel engine is fairly hefty. I would have really liked the 140 tdi myself, but the budget ran out. :S

It'll make a change though, I seemed to have owned a diesel of some kind or other for years.

Parts availability does seem to have had a big impact, reading about the sunroof option and the impact that has had.

I am also curious about this. I am from Sweden and I did order my last Skoda in the middle of August and the preliminary production date I have now got from the dealer after a few months is around week 6-7 next year (2011). I have ordered a Skoda Yeti 1.2 TSI DSG Experience and I long for it...

Regards

The way build weeks seem to move (mines gone from 41>44>46>45) might suggest that component availability has something to do with it.

I ordered a 1.2 DSG SE (RHD) early September and have been given week 47 build (if it doesn't slip).

That said, the order does show delivery as mid February 2011.

I shall be waiting for updated information from James!

Many years ago I worked for the Production Control (i.e. scheduling) department at the Nissan factory in Sunderland. I imagine that the cars will largely be built by order date, but parts availability may be a factor; e.g. if a particular engine is in short supply it will be rationed. I doubt that model / colour makes any difference; they will paint the body shells in small batches but then send them down the production line "mixed up" by colour/model (typically to balance workload). I gather that Skoda "batch" the production of RHD cars and only produce on a weekly basis (Tuesdays I have heard). I suspect that country of destination will also be a factor; some markets are less tolerant of long lead times than others!!
