Common oil leaks on vrs?

Featured Replies

Hello,

noiced i am getting oil spots on my drive from my vrs. Coming from intercooler side corner. Checked oil level all seems fine. Car has done 50k. Will be in to skoda for service soon so just wondered if there are any common oil leak areas??

Yes, your right, the pieps going into there will weep a little oil over time. You can just drain the oil out and refit or go for a complete flush of the i/c circuit.

Does the oil from there drain into the undertray?

could be a loose sump plug (easy to check)

or just slight weeping from the intercooler pipes

just have a look under the car and wipe it off with some GUNK or something

Don't know where it goes as I have a FMIC. You will have to take the tray out and trace the oil path back to the source of the leak.

I think its perfectly normal for it to leak oil from that area. Usually happens if after a run you down allow it to idle for 30 seconds before switching off...or another cause its not being given a good blast out on the motorway

Possibly! The car does 35 miles journeys to work each day at motorway speeds and no I don't let it idle to cool down. Just noticed about 20 oil spots on the drive. Where does the excess oil come from if that is the cause?

Crank Case vents oil vapour through air intake, which then ends up in the intercooler pipes

causing them to weap oil at the joins and blow off from time to time.....

solution CCV mod!

Have a search im sure it in guides

If you look under the OSF of the car, you will see a little cut-out in the underside of the bumper / undertray (can't remember which off the top of my head) which seems to be designed to let drips from the intercooler connection drain away...

Yes the drips are coming from there, dripping down from a ribbed metal part that is visible

That's the connector between the boost hose and the intercooler. A small amount of oil coming from there isn't unusual, but it's worth keeping an eye on the level in the sump just in case...
