Got a problem with rear nearside wheel - very stiff to turn . Suspect it's possibly a handbrake cable playing up .

For the purists ( who ignore sig data) -it's a 1.4TDi ( that's diesel ) ,with drums on the rear ( should be discs with the oomph on this on ,but that's another story) .

According to Haynes ( who don't give a lot of info for the pace of the book) -it's got one cable from the handbrake to an equalising plate .Then two cables to the drums . So I'd suspect with a wheel locking up ,that one cable is tight . Would appreciate any more info on the layout( is equaliser inside car,or underneath etc) - Any known problems / quick ( and obviously CHEAP ) fixes would be welcome ( like if it's possible to free up cable ) ,before I have a look .

Second problem - to date no problems with little man with hammer ,but waiting for one to see this as a money making chance . My front seat belts work ok , but when released, are slow to retract .Any pointers on making them quicker to retract ?

Seat belts retracting slowly, apparently cleaning them with furniture polish helps.

Yeah any silicone will help

There is a page in the owners manual instructing to regularly clean the belts with a mild soapy solution to remove dirt and fluff etc that jams up the belt.

Gents - thanks a million( norm -that drawing says a lot-ta) - as I'm suspecting a cable , any ideas on freeing it ,or is it new cable time . On the belt - thanks - amazingly ,never noticed the bit on belts -never had this problem before .

For the seized wheel, I'd reckon that you would need to get the drum off and clean up the actuating levers - and do the same on the other side as eventually these "things" do seize up. The proper fix, while costing more but providing longer future trouble free motoring is, to replace the rear shoes as I reckon that most of the problem parts are part of the shoes.
