ST170 to 2005 vRS

Featured Replies

Evening all, swapped my ST170 for a Fabia vRS on Friday, was planning to swap for a regular diesel but I couldn't let go of my inner chav. Really impressed with the vRS after 400 miles. Getting some good 55-60mpg even with my new car testing techniques, seems to hold the road well too. Planning on putting a K&N panel filter in it soon since they eventually pay for themselves. So there we go, Hello

Hello,

i was going to put a K&N filter on at first but i was told that your better off just sticking with the OEM filter changed every 10,000

Welcome.

Nice to see another from North Wales. Where abouts are you based?

Hi and welcome aboard.

Welcome to Briskoda

Welcome

You must really find a difference between the ST & Fabia .

Would be interesting to know your personal views on the 2.

I had a panel filter in mine & sold it with, I noticed the difference, specially the sudden lack of soot covering the back of the car.

I'm sure i'll spot ya at some point. I'm around Mold quite a bit. I'm just on the outskirts of Denbigh.

Loved the ST170, it made such a good noise and it held on in the corners until your face hurt. Took it too the alps earlier this year and the noise through the rock face tunnels was amazing. the down sides where the economy and the fact it liked to break, 35mpg on a 70mph pure motorway run is not good.

So far I've been really impressed with the vRS, it just goes like a train, close to the pace of the ST170, but more accessible. in the twistys it does feel less composed but its still pretty impressive, and, my favorite part, it does 60mpg.

hi & welcome

I'll be the one going slow to get some good mpg, then getting bored and deciding to bugger off down the road :-)

Thanks for all the welcomes :)

Just a thought for you on the Panel filter, I've had them on my previous 406 Coupe and have one on my current Jag XKR. Established thinking is that although they improve the sound and power slightly (don't expect a huge increase), along with increased flow comes less filtering of fine dust. I didn't believe it myself until I did some googling and also got my XKR oil analysis back from http://www.blackstone-labs.com/. Contained within the report was that silica content was higher than expected and to check the air filter - which got me wondering about the previous comment I had read!! (and when I inspected/cleaned the filter/airbox, there were was some fine stuff that had made it through but remained trapped in the airbox). Overall I guess it makes sense, you don't get owt for nowt... so to get increased flow, there must be less restriction therefore less filtering... that said, will you ever notice it over the normal life of the car - probably not, but it will increase your engine wear to a degree...
