Longlife Service Indicator

Featured Replies

Hello!

Just had my 59 CR VRS serviced for the first time 2 weeks ago. It's on a longlife / variable service interval, and managed 18,500 miles to the first service. (lasted twice as long as the first set of Dunlop fronts!)

Out of interest I checked the miles to next service straight after the service, and it read 9,300. I checked on various VAG forums, and came to the conclusion that it takes 1,000 miles to reset to an accurate figure.

I have now done over 1,000 miles since the service, and it reads 8,300 to service.

My long-winded question is:

Has the garage sneakily switched it to a fixed service setting, or should I give it another 1,000 miles before questioning them?

Thanks in advance.

After my first service variable service the service indicator was reading 9800 miles. Fortunately I checked it before leaving the garage and they admitted that it had been set to fixed service by mistake and they then reset it to variable service interval (I hope they didn’t also use the fixed service oil by ‘mistake’ too, although the bill clearly showed the expensive stuff had been used!)

When it was reset to variable service intervals the service indicator displayed “----“ for mileage and date. When I queried the “----“ reading I had various answers from the dealer and Skoda Customer Care on this one. The dealer said the service intervals would not show up until the service was due imminently. I explained that when the car was new it showed 18,000 miles/22 years or there abouts and I watched it count down, they said this must be a factory setting!

After about 4 weeks the service indicator started to give the expected 18,000 miles/2 years values.

I think you will need to take it back to the dealer and explain the situation, they will then need to reset the car to variable servicing.

Yup, your dealers trying to pull a fast one.

Just be sure they used the right oil and did the variable service you paid for!

mine is like this but got it serviced at an indy. It's down to 6800miles now so i'm just sitting it out until it's due again. I'm a little sick that i bought long life 3 for car.

It looked like the service intervals had been set to fixed. A mate had tried using VAGCOM to reset back to variable but it's not allowing changes.

Thanks guys ... just checked my receipt for the service, which clearly states longlife / variable service.

I'll make a phone call first thing, and get them to reset it / give me a complimentary service in 8k miles!

What a great resource Briskoda is!

The dealer that did the service has not followed the correct procedure for reseting the service countdown. The display after a variable service should show ---- for a period of several hundred miles before counting down. The OPs car has been reset to standard fixed 10K / 1 year servicing, which is quiet easy to do if you do not know how to work things properly.

As your car is equipped with a DPF (Dust Particulate Filter) even if they had performed a fixed service they should have used the same higher grade long life oil as with a variable service so no need to worry about the quality of the oil.

Right ... dealer changed the service to longlife .... no explanation, but at least it's sorted now!

I will know to check before leaving the dealer carpark next time.

Thanks for the advice.

:giggle: If its set to 10000 mile services I would have thought that would keep the dealers happy B)
