Engine needs 3 new valves, is this unusual?

Featured Replies

Just had the head taken off my engine by a Skoda dealer. The intake valves are in pretty poor nick, 1 valve chipped and leaking, 1badly worn and 3rd in poor condition so may as well be replaced. Its a 2003 Fabia 1.2 Classic (6 valve) with 58,000 on the clock.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Is this a common fault or have I got the fabled "Friday Afternoon Monster from Hell"?

Could this problem be indicative of some other fault?

Cheers

In todays cars that engine should have done at least double that mileage without problems (as long as it has been serviced properly).

Sounds like that engine has had some other problem in the past to achieve those faults. Valves wouldn't normally 'chip' unless something has hit them?

There is a bulletin and a known issue on some of the 1.2s both 6v and 12v. Issues with the valve guides means the valves burn out.

Kits are available to repair them, the 6v one I sorted a little while back came with a new cylinder head with valves, a new catalyst/manifold, all the sealers and bolts required and cost sub 400! Amazing price considering what you get but as they know its a problem then they are helping out a bit I think.
