WHEEL STORAGE

Featured Replies

Now that winter has arrived I was wondering if there is a best practice/ guide for storing wheels ie how to care for them and what to put them in?

I did try I search but couldnt find anything.

There are no special requirements, as tyres left on a car don't require any special treatment, I would just use common sense!

Personally I would store them somewhere undercover out of direct sunlight and out of the elements of the weather (frost, rain etc). Obviously you also need to be careful that you don't damage the tyres while they are off the car, try not to drag them along the floor too much and don't puncture them with anything. An unheated garage or shed would be an ideal location, otherwise you could store them outside and cover them in tarp or something.

Tyres are perishable and will obviously deteriorate as they age, so make sure you don't store them for years. If your planning to put them back on next year, then that's fine.

Thanks. I was just concerned that whilst on car they were moving and being washed regularily but just sitting in garage for months would mean they may have been at risk to the cold and damp.

They say tyres on wheels should be stored flat, under cover, away from sunlight. Tyres off wheels should be stored upright, also away from sunlight.

I stack my other set of wheels with tyres but I'm thinking of getting a wheel tree instead, so that there is less weight on the sides of the wheel/tyre at the bottom of the heap.
