How many suspension mods?

Featured Replies

Imagine you get the pro-system from Eibach or Koni/Eibach's or even better coilovers ( explaination of the benefits of coilovers over dampers/springs would be great  ), then you get a Upper Front & Lower front strut brace. On top of that you get the Rear strut brace currently in use by a few members on here. Finally get front ARB's & rear ARB's (topic in My Performance section). How good would the steering be then!!! It'd be like a Pegeot 106 GTi LOL, no understeer which could be a problem but emence cornering speeds :) I noticed a dramatic change from just the seat sport upper front strut brace over standard.

:D

I think for day to day use it might well be possible to go 'over the top.

Ive had to reset my dampers to a softer setting (only 1/4 turn but makes a difference) as in the recent weather torque steer and grip had got alot worse, now its a touch softer its handling alot better.

Well that list Hellfire gave is the exact list that was planned for early Febuary.

What should I loose so that I dont comprimise day to day driving?

Have a word with Graeme (the well pictured Yellow vRS) last time I spoke to him he said he was going to yake the lower brace off as it was a bit too stiff.

Well I've got TDI eibach springs/Dampers. Soon to replace the springs with the correct vRS ones (do not recommend TDI springs to any vRS owner). Have a rear strut brace, lower front waiting to be fitted and Forge upper on order. Could also be going for the ARB as well. So its gonna be stiff :D

How about go for all the braces and the ARB and leave the srpings/dampers.

I'd go the other way round personally, I find that if you get the right lowering with the correct dampers, ride quality isnt affected adversely (still will be stiffer) and you will get greater cornering speeds. My understanding on ARB's & Strut Braces are that they make the suspension turrets flex less meaning a more direct turn in and reduced oversteer, however by lowering the car not only does it reduce roll but I believe a lot of a cars handling depends upon the driver, and it's nice to know on roads where the limit is, no understeer means you can ultimately go faster but if you over cook it, your f@%$#d. Also, I think people will be more impressed with lowering the car than adding Struts/ARB's proving you get the right kit.

I know with 205/40 17s on the ride is even harsher! The sidewall flex/stiffness plays a major part in ride comfort too. I'm very happy with the strut brace and eibachs at the front and wouldn't want even more, but wouldn't mind something for the rear half of the car. :D

AFAIK there is no rear ARB for the Fabia. Have no idea about the gains of running an uprated front one with springs, dampers and struts - will that not make the car a bit tail happy? :)

I wouldn't go for the lower strut brace just yet. With the weather the way it is, it is now too stiff and likes nothing more than to head for the bushes. ;)

It is also very stiff for day to day driving. I have attempted to remove it, but think I must have cross threaded the bolt as it locked solid on the way out and was a pain in the rear to get back in. Actually thought I was going to snap the bolt tightening it back up!

I am also looking into either shocks or coilovers for some point this year. The Eibachs on the standard shocks just don't give enough over our rubbish roads. Hope this helps with your decision.

So the Eibach Pro system/Eibach's with Koni's would still give a good level of comfort with less roll on hard cornering?

Yep definitely. The Eibach dampers aren't adjustable but seem to offer a good compromise between ride and handling and are matched to the springs. Koni's will allow you to firm up the ride if you go on track and soften it for general road use..... all comes down to how much you want to spend :D
