Urgent- oil lights

Featured Replies

p.s i didnt say anything about being a mechanic for years lol ( but i am i just keep it quite so i dont have people ask loads of q's lol) and if the people you say had any experience with the 20v engine they would have without a doubt told you to replace the water pump. so my guess is they havent worked on or around a 1.8t 20v engine before no disrepect but all engines are different....!!! this is a known problem

water pump imo at this stage would be silly not to change when doing the belt might cost £40 now extra but will save you £££'s if it fails buddy wich is a COMMON problem

agreed, bit of preventative maintainance for the sake of £40 while the belts are getting changed rather than £100's if it fails and the belts have to come back off

Err you haven't mentioned the pick up pipe? Please say you've changed that?

Sent from my Galaxy S3, not a Crapple!

as above, drop off the sump and inspect

if it is clogged i'd replace it

might be worth an engine flush after that, but beware more sludge being liberated that could clog a new pickup pipe

This thread is so full of stupid :giggle:

+1

The pick up pipe or oil strainer gets blocked when too infrequent oil changes occur or even on high miles.

If your oil light is on do not rev it as you are asking for trouble. It had been covered lot's. Folks who replace pump only, could well have replaced the wrong part as the poor flow is lightly to be blocked strainer or party blocked. Avoid driving and fix it.

Here is my DIY pick up replacement guide from techi section

I thought Engine flushes are no recommended for VAG cars, the oil has enough additives it in to keep engine clean...
