hi guys just wonderin if anyone can help me please?

iv never driven a turbo diesel before i got my fabia vrs so i cant compare it to anything so cant decide whether its been remapped or not.

is there any way of telling or is it just a case of rolling road?

oh and does anyone know any where near manchester that do rolling roads?

Awesome in Irlam and Prosport in Stockport have dynos - I'm sure there are more. Does the car pull strongly past about 3500 rpm, or does it run out of puff? If it doesn't pull right to the redline, it's probably not been remapped.

i think it starts to run out of puff but not totally sure... i need some diesel so ill go n try it now :rofl:

right just been to fill up

seems to ease off after 3500-4000. It still pulls but you dont get the "pressed in the seat" feeling

It's just as much to do with Mk1 Fabias as it is to do with 'Maintenance and Performance' IMO...

i bought my vrs thinking it was std only to find it was mapped.... take it to a decent mapper/company and they should be able to check it thru their cpu, thats what i did anyway [shark performance] emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Me too. I asked the previous owner if it had been mapped and he said no.

I rolling roaded mine to find out for sure.

And, according to printout. 181bhp 297lb/ft

Most tuners have a "style" so sometimes you can tell who wrote the map from that :)

The thing is... the guy I bought mine from used to work at Silverstone, I am in no doubt it's been

round the track a few times, and literally anybody could have beentinkering with it.

It had other little mods which included an oversize home made PD160 thingy

and a pair of custom tailpipes welded onto the OEM backbox. He certainly had access to some

kind of workshop... BUT, he may have just paid any of the many tuning firms out there to do it.

I'd feel reassured if I at least knew it had been done by a responsible mapper.

I wouldn't like to say I've got the knowledge to be able to tell the difference Matt.

I try and drive it smoothly but that's how I'd drive any car. All I really have is the RR graph

to go by, would that contain enough information to ascertain any problems with the map?

Or have I got to shell out for it all to be scanned?

I live with the remap but if I'm honest I'd have preferred a standard car.

I'd feel happier about it if I knew it was done somewhere reputable.

Out of interest how do insurance companies deal with Remaps? Obviously they can check the ECU if you are in an accident and see there has been a remap but presumably they have no way of telling if it was to a certain power?

Under those circumstances, the power would be irrelevant. Any kind of undeclared remap would void your insurance - potentially even a de-tune for economy if you were ever going to do such a thing! Not worth the risk, especially as I gather you could end up with a conviction for driving without insurance on top of your uninsured loss...

No I wasn't thinking of it from the poiunt of view that the remap was undeclared but how much it would alter the premium by. The premium increase will vary depending on how much power the car was putting out. I was just wondering "theoretically" if you could declare the remap but at a lower output than it might be running. If the worst were to happen and the company checked the ECU they would see it had been remapped but would they be able to actually determiine the output from that? I wouldn't do it because its not really an issue for me but I was just wondering about it.

IME, insurers give you cover on a 'power not more than xyz' basis...

I suppose it depends on the insurers. Adrian Flux said they would want an increase in premium at the the same percentage as the increase in power.

I totally understand how you feel. Rather choose your own mods and mapper etc. I'm sure if you stuck the rr graph up here the people with more knowledge than me could advise. :thumbup:
