skoda fabia 1.4 tdi 3 cylinder 70bhp 2008

Featured Replies

Hi would like the full low down on this vehicle please, are they any good I know they are fairly noisy but other than that any unhappy skoda 3 cylinder drivers out there input would be great, been for test drive and it seemed to pull ok but as i said noisy.

Unless it's offered at a cracking price, avoid. There's no logical reason at all to buy the 70 when you can buy the 80 for not much more money. Considerably less torque (look at the Nm figures), more noise (because it's got to work harder) and far more expensive road tax. Why on earth...??

Hello mate,

I've been the proud owner of a Fabia 2 1.4 TDI estate for two months now and when I picked the car up I thought I had made the biggest mistake of my life when I heard it (never test drove it) but it's a cracking car, it's nippy and it pulls like a train.

MPG wise on town hops I'm averaging about 45-48MPG , on longer journey's I've managed to get about 55-60MPG, combine that with a average and I'm returning 49MPG town and longer trips.

Don't let the noise put you off, you will find it to be a rewarding little engine.

Hi thanx for input, must agree that it seemed to pull fine although noisy its only for the missus, shopping and stuff no more than 10 miles round trips, the petrol may be better for this mileage ? ive ordered the 1.6 cr tdi 105 for myself so this was just a little runner for day to day running

Dont know the engine but if its got a DPF then do not even consider it if the car is only doing short journeys all the time, a DPF needs regular longer runs to keep it clean and its not covered by warranty if you block it up with short trips

Don't think this has a DPF so you should be fine

pre-dpf so its fine, had a talk with a friend ex-skoda mechanic he said good engine the 1.4 tdi 3 pot,way better than the petrol 1.2 engine (not the tsi the early 1.2) although noisy on start an excellent run around,so I will have to fabias now the new cr 1.6 tdi and the 1.4tdi its going to be nice to see the difference in the cars:thumbup:

Sebon, the 70bhp is quite a motor and totally bullet proof just like it's 80bhp partner, you can thrash it all day and everyday if you need to and it comes back for more. I've seen one of these with 220,000 miles on the clock and it was all original apart from a new clutch and exhaust system and of course several sets of tyres. As has been said, it's a bit noisier than the 80bhp because there is no sound deadening plastic panel on top of the engine (at least the one I looked at didn't have one) but otherwise it's ok. There is plenty of torque low down, but unlike the 80bhp engine, it tails off just a bit earlier in the rev range and there is less bhp to take over. However, it will run rings around many smaller petrol engines and give a 1600cc petrol Focus a good run for it's money. I would imagine the fuel consumption may be less than my 80bhp version. I get up to 74mpg (yes...no kidding!).

If you get the chance of the 80bhp version I would go for that but otherwise it will be a good buy.

thank you estate man,I will be purchasing the vehicle on wednesday next got rid of my fiat stilo thank god so will get the fabia next week, just been told the other fabia 1.6cr tdi will not be here to next year feb I thinkemoticon-0106-crying.gif

The 3 pot engine is spot on. Sure, it rattles a little more than a 4 pot, but it wont bother you at all.

MrDust thanx for that,I have confirmed that I am purchasing getting on wednesday, its mainly for the missus as I have the elegance 1.6cr tdi 105 with toys, but I think it will be feb 2011 when I get it though!emoticon-0106-crying.gif

Nothing wrong with the 3 cylinder.

Have updated from the old 1.4Mpi to the 3 cylinder.

I haven't checked the stats on this in great detail, as its isn't that interesting but the new 70hp petrol does closer to 14secs on 0-60 compared to the old one I think it was more like 18 :giggle:

Its also very frugal on juice....seems pretty quite, is sharp to drive, you know what all around I like it, and my other car is the diesel vRS so they can't be that bad.

Besides, of my other vehicles, I have another one that's 3 cyclinder, makes 130bhp but will go to 0-60 in closer to 3 seconds B)

3 cylinders are cool.

I guess its possible we will see more engine failures at high miles, but how often is it anyway that its the engine that causes a car to be scrapped nowadays? It usually just becomes worthless / uneconomic to continue repairing it and cheaper to replace.

I had the 1.4MPi for 8 years ant 70,000 miles with four cylinders with litle sign of wear. I am sure if could have done it with one less.

I wouldn't skimp on servicing, though.

Oh yeah by the way ours was a cracking price: 2009 59 with just over 10k, in black, for £6.5k. I'd say that was pretty spot on myself (petrol though)

Although it was trim one but did get aircon with it and decent stereo so quite chuffed

yes thanx for that, its the trim 1 1.4tdi 2008 with aircon and electric windows fitted by previous owner £5,600,44k on the clock though but itsa diesel so just run in I thinkB),the dealer throwing in a set of flaps on it free and mats,so from what every one is telling me it should be fine will only average about 5k a year from now on so it'll be ok,my mechanic will do the service skoda trained so she will be well looked after:thumbup:

The 70bhp is a gutless engine for heavens sake go for the 80 bhp tune: it is brisk and sounds great with a lot more torque.

gutless ? bit unfair I have test driven and ok it's not a vrs but it's no porodua,it will just be doing the 4 mile round trip, shopping and general mule thats it will never venture onto duals or mororways,I have ordered the cr1.6tdi 105 for that !,the missus she is happy and so am I yes I agree the 80 bhp would be better but when needs must and I need to get the 70bhp keeps the missus happy, it seemed to pull up the hills here easy and the area is more 30mph rather than 50mph so it will be fine I can always keep it for a couple of years and get a 80bhp or get another 1.6crtdi:rofl:

If it suits your needs go for it but the higher tune is cleaner and much livlier. I like the engine in general though and the unique sound is characterful.

Bloody brilliant car,Matty serious yes 1st gear set of bit slow but once going she flies I am totally impressed ive fitted sound proofing over the engine and its now no noisier than the 4 cylinder perfect little car.

Who says it will have 70BHP?? My little 80BHP 1.4 managed to acheive 90.5BHP, so you might be surprised to find it has a little more power than you think.

Yes I agree with you its far better than my superb 2 105bhp s not as comfortable but only slightly,a great little car wondering why ive ordered the 1.6 good fuel economy 2:thumbup:
