Ebay - Columbus / Ipod

Featured Replies

Hi All

I have a Octavia FL, with a Bolero, and I want to upgrade to a Columbus.

They are lot cheaper on Ebay, so who to buy from? Have you had any problems with the Columbus.

Also I need to connect a Ipod, what cables do I need.

One thing to think about is where are all these Columbus's on eBay coming from?

One member on here at least has had 2 stolen in almost as many months.

I bought mine from a guy in Lithuania and have no problems at all. Unit was brand new, still had protective coverings on the screen etc

You can just connect your Ipod through the aux-in connector in the armrest. If you want it fully integrated then you need the MDI kit (from Ebay or a dealer) I didnt see much point though due to the SD card slot and internal hard-drive of the Columbus.

Hi Keith

Can you control music via the SD card?

Yes of course, that what the SD card slot is for. I have a 32 GB SDHC in mine, takes all my MP3's with plenty of room to spare.

Def shop around - you can get one fitted for about 600 and included coding and all.

Most around are not brand new - even the 'new' ones are usually refurbs.

A new one will come fully boxed with manual and disks - thats what the dealership told me.

I did a lot of shopping around and came to the conclusion that you cant get a brand new unit for short of £850 whereas a 2nd hand or refurb unit depending on where you look between £400- £600

Mine came boxed in a white box with disk with cover over display etc but I knew before ordering that it was a refurb unit. To the unexpecting eye though would look brand new!

With the internal hard drive (20Gb) and the SD card reader (mine will read 32Gb SDHC) why would anyone want an iPod in their car?

Hope that helps.

I can think of a few reasons:

  • Shuffle mode on Columbus isn't very good
  • Playlist support isn't brilliant either
  • If you like podcasts, have an iPod/iPhone and can't be bothered to faff about getting them on SD card
  • You'd like something that charges your iPhone in the car

I'm tempted to try and retro-fit MDI to my car but the cost is too high to fix the few problems I can think of.

But I probably would spec an iPhone/iPod interface if I ever buy a new car.

Hi All

If i get the columbus, do I need a MDI, if so, anyone now any part numbers. Skoda will not give a them, because the MDI is an factory fit ONLY, and calm it can not fit the MDI to the columbus.

Any ideas????

Only you can decide if you need/want MDI. Its not something I have nor do I miss it or want it. However some people do.

It can be fitted to Columbus as countless people can testify. There was a thread on here a few days back with the part numbers in, or you can order one from a dealer who knows his stuff.

The ebay member DSGwagen sells the MDI Retrofit kit for around £160, I bought one and it can be fitted with a bit of time and patience,,,,neither of which I have much of so I took it to Ben at Shark to fit it, works a treat!

I'll look into this.
