First problem :-(

Featured Replies

I've noticed that from time to time the Bolero stereo sounds distorted, regardless of volume level or audio input (radio/CD/SD card). I can't be certain but I think the problem occurs when I start the car and put the car in reverse causing the audible parking sensors to chirp into life, while at the same time my phone is busy pairing via Bluetooth and thus also sending an audible signal via the stereo on successful pairing. I'm not sure if it's a combination of all of these events (or perhaps 2 of them, or maybe they are completely unrelated), but the stereo loses its clarity quite markedly, almost as if it is being clipped because of over-amplification, even though the volume is at a very modest level. All speakers appear to be affected when it happens. Sometimes switching the car off clears the fault, sometimes not. It goes days without happening then the problem reoccurs. My wife has also experienced the issue and she noted that when it happened the audible "bong" made by the stereo when her phone paired via Bluetooth, was much louder that it normally is.

Before I report this probably hard to diagnose intermittent type of issue to my dealer, I wonder has anyone else struck anything similar?

Nudge, in the hope that someone might have an idea what might be causing this issue.

3 weeks on and I've still got the problem. I had to pop into my dealer for something else a couple of days ago and they checked to see if there was a firmware update or any service advisory for the stereo (there wasn't). My other half drove home this evening, with the stereo working perfectly. She left the car out of the garage and when I went to put it away 30 minutes later, the stereo was doing its distortion trick. I've recorded the distorted/over-amplified sound on my phone now, so at least I can play it back to the dealer to prove the fault really does exist.

If you have factory fit parking sensors the bolero will lower the volume and muffle the sound when you engage reverse so that you can hear the parking sensor beeps. This is a standard safety feature built into the system, but the volume should return to normal when you disengage reverse. If its staying muffled I would suggest that there is a fault in the head unit which should be replaced under warranty by the dealer.

The car went to the dealer today and they could find no fault, but as a precaution, they swapped out the Bolero head unit with another brand new unit from a new car in stock. Curiously, while the unit looks physically identical, the display for the front and rear parking sensors is a little different with a more orange/brown colour scheme and slightly different graphics, which surprised me as I expected this would be identical. At least it still correctly recognized a trailer being hitched to it. Anyway, so far so good with the stereo, with no weird volume over-amplification issues. Here's hoping this was the source of my problem.

I experienced the same when pairing my phone. This is because the audible "bong" the bolero makes is determined from the phone volume you set when you last were having a conversation. I therefore always lower the volume when I am ending a call so that I wont have to hear the loud bong which always scares the hell out of me.

If there is a way to remove the audible bong when pairing the phone I am very interested in...

It'll either be a different firmware version or they didn't code it correctly - maybe sportline or midline instead of highline?

Me too, but I don't think it is possible. The default volume is ridiculously loud, but at least when turned down it doesn't make you jump too badly.

Maybe. I discovered today that the head unit is out of a brand new Superb, so perhaps it uses slightly different (later?) firmware, or the Superb uses slightly different graphics for the parking sensor display? The car shape is close enough to the Scout and the look of the display is possibly smarter than the original, plus it seems to work perfectly accurately, so who am I to complain? Good result in my opinion and kudos to my local dealer for taking the trouble to swap out a head unit without actually witnessing the fault.

I have just taken delivery on my Scout and the color scheme is like you describe. Orange and brown.
