Vrs TSI mpg

Featured Replies

Ok, I've had my shark stage 1 map on the car now for about a month. Not paid much attention to MPG really before, and this really isn't a scientific test..

but..

drove back to oxford from cheltenham at the weekend, normal traffic speeds, no "eco" style driving at all like freewheeling etc, just drove it normally, same speed as the other traffic, not in a hurry as i had two children asleep in the back... shocked to find when i'd arrived home:

42.7 mpg!

yes

FORTY TWO point SEVEN miles per gallon.

Is this the shark map doing its stuff, or would a "normal" TSI also do the same mpg? Either way its a fantastic result from an engine running something like 250bhp!

Normal average (maxidot #2 reading) is around 32mpg but then my normal driving style when i'm on my own in the car is probaly best described as "flamboyant"..!

Sounds good to me, I have a standard TSI VRS and on a run like that I would expect to see around 39 - 40mpg which compared to my old TFI is about 2mpg on a run better. Should like i need to invest in a remap....

Edit - what was your average speed?

I suppose i should have looked at the other stats on the display, but i would guess maybe 50-ish average? Most of that trip is A40 which moves at 60-70 mph, plus a little stop start as we got out of cheltenham. Its about 40 miles in total.

Yeah, my '59 TSI will do around 35-45 depending on the run. A decent cruise on dual carriage ways/motorways normally returns 45 at the very most, and normal stop start driving downs it to about 35. Sounds like it's going well!!!! :giggle:

I've done a long journey in a Mk5 Golf GTI and got in the mid 40s without trying too hard so it's not unreasonable to get the same in an Octy.

That said, I'm not convinced that a remap won't make the trip computer less accurate than before. One of the parameters that's altered is the fueling so that could affect the calculations.

Out of interest, has anyone done a before and after comparison to see if the margin of error does change?

I got more miles to the gallon after my remap ,but it didn't last long because the extra acceleration is infectious! :S

ok, so its just me then - others seem to think 40+mpg is normal :D

just to add - the car still has the roof bars and bike carrier fitted.. must get around to pulling that off at some point..

I cycle on the road not the roof! :giggle: Car looks B)

It depends how the car was remapped. One of our remaps shouldn't affect the accuracy of the trip computer but many of the lazily tuned remaps alter the injector calibration to cause the car to inject more fuel rather than tuning the map properly, which will definitely alter the trip computer reading

Now even I have to say.. that is impressive!

Thats what I suspected, thanks.

I'm guessing tuning box remaps will definitely fall into the latter category as they are altering the fueling after the ECU has decided how much to inject.

Haven't seem more than 35 mpg on the average mpg display yet on mine, but it is only a month old.

I haven't mapped mine (yet) as I am worried about the warranty but I get an average 35mpg and have seen as much as 50mpg as consumption 2 on the screen.

I don't drive it hard though I don't hang around either.

Whats this consumption 2?

Ah I've RTFM....could have had the car years before I found that!

I seem to spend a lot of time waiting for SWMBO in the car, get bored with the radio and start pressing all the buttons . . .

I can only get 40mpg plus driving like a nun in sixth gear through roadworks.

200 mile A road/motorway journey to my folks shows indicated 36mpg. Fuel calculation shows trip is about 2mpg optimistic.

Daily 15 minute commute into work (mixed roads) struggles to see an indicated 30mpg. I've done about 8000 miles and with fuel prices as they are perhaps I should be considering a performance upgrade to improve consumption!

I have not seen any real difference when driving in the same manner as I did before, but how can you drive in the same manner when you have a remap
