Chris Knott Insurance

Featured Replies

My Fabia vRS (Modified.. no chip as yet) insurance was up for renewal (Brentacre) and they've gone up by about £50.. so I've heard good things about Chris Knott.. thought I'd give them a go for a renewal.

  • Phoned in, mentioned I had a Fabia, member of the Briskoda forum and mentioned that I had a quote code from here.. and the guy actually told me the code, which matched.. great..
  • Gave my details..
  • Then he asked for a renewal quote to beat, so I told him..
  • He then pretty immediately wanted to know who I was with, so I mentioned, then he asked who the actual insurance was with.. Highways... ( starting to get an iffy feeling ).
  • Put me on hold for about 60 seconds (can't complain) to be told that they've come back with
    exactly
the same premium.... and that was that... they obviously didn't get my business.

Now, does this mean the Chris Knott Skoda Group Insurance deal isn't a unique offering and Brentacre offer the same thing as a matter of course (from Highways) ??? I'm not surprised if they (Chris Knott) did, it's a pretty good gimmick to get more quotes in..

I'm assuming that the currently "best" (where best, read "highest commission" ) or most common deals are by Highways ... can anyone suggest another Modified insurance underwriter (other than Highways) and what broker they went through? Brentacre wouldn't shift on price unless I had a cheaper quote from somewhere else, and they could go back to Highways for a re-quote to beat.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Phil.

Chris knott is just a broker, like brentacre. Their main provider is also highway, hence why he asked who you are already with. I guess the cheapest quote was with highway, which since its the same company you already had a quote for will be exactly the same or simillar since highway are already competitive.

It's considered bad form to undercut another broker using the same underwriter. You could try my company, we use more than one underwriter.

Thanks

Underwriters offer different insurance factors to different brokers to stimulate the market so no two quotes should be the same via two different brokers (even if the underwriter is the same). Different commission will be applied on top of this which should also help keep prices separate. In my experience brokers will have no problem taking business away from another broker even if it will be underwritten by the same insurer, the broker can alter their commission so the underwriter gets the correct net amount, it;'s just the broker might not make so much commission/profit.

I can't see what the problem is

I'm covered by Brentacre (underwritten by Highway), however both Chris Knott and Adrian Flux told me that Highway had declined to provide them with a quote. The joys of a Greater Manchester postcode... :(

I'm also covered with Highway through Adrian Flux. When I tried to get a quote from Chris 'The computer says' Knott they woudln't even quote due to the postcode. :o

F***ing ridiculous if they're using the same underwriter. :S

Needless to say they won't be getting any business from me, ever, even if I move to a house with a Fort Knox garage surrounded by a crocodile moat, the bell ends :giggle:

Thanks for the info. I ran out of time, this time around, but I'll drop you a line for a quote next renewal.

Cheers.

Phil.
