Hello - and a few questions

Featured Replies

Hello, we live in country New South Wales, Australia, and we love the Roomster so much that we now own not one but two diesel 1.9 Roomsters.

The new one is mine (rather than hers) and so I can modify it. So, some questions:

Has anyone upgraded the Dance sound system? It appears that a whole bunch of VW systems are plug and play, but has anyone actually done it in the Roomster and can comment on any issues they found?

Can anyone identify what VW suspension systems (springs, dampers) are the same as the Roomster? (I always read that the Roomster uses VW suspension from other models but the exact models and years are never identified! A direct bolt-in from say a Golf GTi might be nice...)

I've read a bit here about fitting a rear anti-roll bar (sway bar). Has anyone identified one that is a direct bolt-on? (Pics of previous sway bar installations also now don't appear to work - any update pics?)

I also plan on remapping the engine management, fitting better brake pads (any really hi-po bolt-on upgrades from other VW factory products available?) fitting a new horn (I am surprised that no-one has complained about it!) and also the Narva driving lights like we've already added to our existing car.

Any additional info from anyone who drives hard (but still values the Roomster's vast space, incredible economy and high safety levels) is much appreciated!

G'day mate & welcome to 'Brisky'

Won't be long before some one will be along to help you out i'm sure.

Cheers

Welcome. I envy your diesel engine. The asthmatic petrol donk is OK in city traffic but you really need to floor the pedal if you want to go up a real hill.

I do hope you will keep us informed as you tweak the new Roomie.

So rear suspension is the same as Mk 4 Golf? (based on aftermarket anti roll bar fitting)

Are by chance THIS Julian Edgar? http://autospeed.com.au/cms/title_Skoda-Roomster-19-TDI/A_110186/article.html

Either way, great review and reinforced my decision to buy the Roomster. Just a practical and fun little car.

I was of the understanding that the front suspension was from the Polo though I may be wrong, if so perhaps Polo GTI brakes and struts fit.

Will be watching your changes with keen interest, remap definately on the cards in the future for our Roomy as long as fuel economy under typical driving conditions does not suffer and does not result in significantly more soot out the tail.

Gday, I have a petrol Roomy, you are right about the diesel engine but I could not afford to pay more than the super-discount price.

Dunno about the radio swap but it looks like a standard DIN fitting to me. I hated it until my son reprogammed all the settings, and now it sounds better. Crap, that makes me sound old...

Yep, the horn is definitely gay, even my wife's i30 makes it sound **** weak.

Still. I am 6000km into my Skoda, love it to bits, would like more ooomph but I am pleased with everything else.

I upgraded the horn to two Nissaan Patrol units - very cheap and easy.
