It's in the same place basically on the 110tdi as on the PD.

et voila! Here's a photo I took earlier.

Tis an easy job.

- Remove engine over (3 caps & nuts)

- Place new o-ring on the end of the new CTS

- Remove clip holding the old CTS in

- Pull out the old CTS and ensure o-ring comes with it

- Push in new CTS

- Secure with clip

- Undo the plug from the old CTS and attach to the new CTS (I did this last, as I found it rather hard to undo when the CTS was in the pipework).

If your quick, then only a few drops of coolant will come out. Oh, do this when the engine is cold otherwise it might hurt your fingers

Thank you guys - I bought the sensor from Skoda, it didnt come with an O-ring, will that be a problem?

Might be worth getting a new o-ring, just to ensure it does not leak. However if your dealer isn't local, then just recycle the old one and keep an eye on it for slight leakage.

I can't remember if I ordered the CTS and the o-ring as 2 items, or if mine came with one. Mine did come from a VAG dealer (either VW in Salisbury, or VW in Dorchester [now a Skoda dealership - still Loders though]).

This'll be useful for me, just bought a genuine VW CTS on eBay. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Just changed mine. Oddly (given the comments earlier) when I pulled out the old sensor, I lost about a coke can worth of coolant before I could get the new sensor in. Mostly this was because the old o-ring didn't come off with the sensor so the new one wouldn't go in!!

I didn't undo the coolant cap, was expecting only a few drops?

All you're doing by keeping the cap on is restricting the amount of air that can get into the system as the coolant escapes. You're opening up a hole the size of your little finger, so you've probably done pretty well only losing that much if you've had to fumble around to get the old O-ring out... :)

The temp on my 1.9 110 tdi doesn't get to 90 degrees, it stays just above 80. Is that a sign of a faulty sensor or is it just the chilly weather?

Also it takes a while to get the temp up.

What's it like on the motor way or when you're stationary? It could be the Thermostat stuck open m8. At the moment I've got a stuck open Thermostat and the temp goes up or down depending whether or not I'm moving or stood still. If its rock steady just under 90 then I would say its the sender otherwise its the stat

Mine took 18 minutes to get up to 90 deg on Thursday when driving back from work (car has bene outside in the cold for about 10 hours).

If yours never gets over 80, then either the thermostat is stuck open (it might get to 90 after a long run?) or the CTS could be faulty.

CTS is easier to change, so one could start there, or a quick fault code scan too.

I sat in the car stationary with engine running for a couple of hours yesterday(it was freezing at work) and temp stayed at about 70 deg.

Occasionally the car gets to 90 if I boot it on the motorway. Otherwise its steady just above 80 deg.
