Citroen C4 digital display

Featured Replies

quite like this car but i am no fan of digital readouts.think the first time i saw it was speedo on the eighties astra gte.think the yaris has something odd too .just can't be doing with them.that one small thing would stop me buying the car.give me analogue anyday.i get annoyed just looking at a digital watch.those who have tried this display before seem to revert to dials.so much better and easier on the eye.bad move citroen :thumbdwn:

And????

Nowadays the digital display can be more or less 100% reliable and accurate as it would just take the speed sensor wire feed from the ECU and use the information, whereas most of the analogue dials use a mechanical wire from the gearbox. The VWs seem to use a mixture of the two though, using the digital speed wire and the analogue dial reading, this is how the PD130 dials can jump from 80, 90, 110, 130, 150.

I think in a car as "technology-focussed" as the C4 they couldn't really have gotten away with analogue dials. Though I suppose what would've been an interesting option would be to have it as an LCD screen, on which you can either choose dials or numbers - would probably run into some sort of legislative problems doing that though...

...and how long would it be before some car forum finds out how to put a video input to the screen?

(zero to pornography in 6 seconds :D)

I've only ever driven one car with a digital speedo -it was (I think) an Oldmobile Cutlass in Canada. It drove me nuts. I was always trying to do an exact speed (100 KPH or similar) but it would get to 99, then jump to 101.

Sad, I know but really annoying.....

Perhaps you can use it to check the cruise control is doing it's job :D

It's not really that bad, and let's not forget the analogue version is damped to avoid it jumping up and down ;)

Once a car gets old properly, you'll know what I mean by that one, damping gone means your speed suddenly jumps up and down like mad :D

(kinda hoping a new car will prevent that for a VERY long time  )

had a 74 beetle last year before i got my furby and it used to do that one minute it would say you were doing 40 next minute it would jump up to 45 or down to 35 ... now the fuel guage that was a different story... up down up down test drove a c2 before i got my furby aswell that had a digital guage and hated it it was so irritating cant keep a constant speed 29 the 31 etc etc

 square wheels I suppose :D - problem is you can't really do a lot about it I guess :(

It was the visual aspect more than anything technical with digital.i think a car can brim with technology but as they say, less is more. as a personal preference it's simple dials for me rather than something in front of me that would be a constant annoyance.don't think even an aston would appeal if it had what i think is a rather cheap looking display! :)
