Got my winter alloys!

Featured Replies

I know some people might think these are a touch overkill, but it was either these or steel wheels.

Pro Race 2 16" x 7" et35 in Matt Black.

Looking at tyres but winter tyres are a little dear so my go for Uniroyal Rainmaster 2 205 55 16 for £200.

sure they'll look cool man! looking out for steelies for mine for the winter months :smirk:

how many sets is that now jay? They are nice, not over the top...........now if they were chrome spinners :giggle:

Oh look, another set of wheels for Jay! :p

Look good mate, nice choice. Will be light too. Yeah, I've been mulling over winter tyres too. And you're right, not cheap! Yeah, something 'all season' might be a bit more suitable. Depends where you need to go of course. Something like those mentioned, or Vredstein Quatracs - still £88 a corner from Camskill mind.

Suppose it's only a tenner more than the RainSports. You'd have to see on Tyre Reviews what the reviews say.

Steve

Tyremen appear to have stock of the Hankook tyre at £67 each including VAT plus carriage.

There's a winter tyre test in auto express this week think wet tyres scored a lot lower

It's a test.... in Auto Express. I'll draw my own conclusions from that.

Sorry, don't have a lot of faith in them.

I'll still have a quick look next time I go past a WH Smiths, but I'd put more faith in other research bases - Tyre Reviews being one.

Steve

Lol I know just thought I.d mention it was in Asda so had a read of all the mags lol

woh! another set of wheels. You should start making tables out of the ones your not using :)

I'm tempted for some Autosocks this year if the weather gets bad again. Need to read up more.

Not a long term solution, but brilliant in an emergency. I used them everyday for a week, and they got me through everything! The snow seems to stick the the Autosock, then you basically have tyres made from snow, and nothing grips to snow like snow, so you get some impressive grip.

Nice wheels them Jay, I've always thought about a pair of 17" PR2's for mine, but never seen an Octy with them on. I've had my winter steels (that you sold me a year or two back!) powdercoated a nice gloss black now, so they are absolutely mint. I found some nice Kumho KW27 snow tyres for them at £47 each from Camskill a month ago, but the whole country has sold out of them now! Brilliant tyre with high speed rating, and even my local fitter only wanted £56 a tyre fitted! I was a fool not to snap them up, but I hesitated due to knowing I'd need all the money I can get if I'm getting engaged! Can't find anything cheap now, so might have to leave it for yet another year! Shame, because the wheels look so nice now. I'll get some pics up at some point.....

This is the problem.Winter tyres are expensive but the Uniroyals have good reviews and at £200 for 4 seems good valve.

Good tyres too!!

I bought my Kumho KW27's in September...£46 each!!!

It was YOU that bought them all!! I was in the process of ordering the KW27's when they went out of stock across the UK! Very annoying......

Hopefully they come back in stock, but it's already been ages since anyone had them.

Finally fitted these on Sunday.

Weighed a standard 17" spider with compared to these 16" and there is a 4kg per rim difference.

They look really good Jay

The 55 profile makes the tyres look much more meaty (better!). What tyres did you go for in the end?

How does the ride comfort compare to the 17's?
