KO3S Hybrid and mods leading up it..

Featured Replies

Hi everybody

Ok so i am planning to take my vRS up to KO3s hybrid stage and aim for 275-290 bhp (if this is realistic?), my questions are;

1 - What is the natural route of mods leading up to the KO3s, bearing in mind i drive the car nearly every day. I have about £400 to put by a month.

2 - What mileage is considered 'high' for a vRS and should i really be thinking of KO3s Hybrid'ing a 88k vRS?

I have searched and searched and searched, but can't put enough threads together to get the answers i need, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

John

1. 270 to 280 is achievable a little more if you run wmi

milage is fine

mods needed

3 inch maf

hybrid turbo

high flow mannifold

full exhaust system if you havent already

tip pipe and uprated filter

s3 injectors

s3 fuel pump

front mount intercooler

suspension upgrade if you havent already

brake upgrade if you havent already

custom remap

good tyres

also bear in mind you will need the little bits so gaskets, oil and filter, sump gasket, ( do the oil pickup at this point ) coolant

then you could put an lsd in so you can actually use the power

not cheap but a very good way to go imo if thats what you wanna do

Thanks that is a lot of help, really is appreciated. I'm looking to stay under the 2k if i can.

Already got new discs and pads in the box, also have coilovers ready to go on.

Undecided on exsaust system as yet.

Couple of other Q's...

What is WMI? Also what is TIP pipe? (sorry).

John

water meth injection (look up aquamist or devils own meth) - it reduces intake temps and helps increase performance

turbo intake pipe

you need big brakes imo, not just uprated pads and discs, a 4 pot caliper, like a leon cupra r brembo one or a porsche 4 pot

I think you would spend more than 2k, as westallc says, that power will need an lsd/atb so factor in over 1k including uprated clutch for that alone.

Plus i am still not 100% convinced that ko3s hybrids are reliable long term, to get that power you need a good high flow mani as stated, not a $300 ebay special but a proper jbs style £500 jobbie

Edited by Oet

price wise

turbo £600

mannifold £500

injectors £100

fuel pump £100

big brakes £600

diff + uprated clutch £1000+

gaskets oil etc etc £150

tip and cai £200

front mount £600

custom mapping £500

3inch maf £50

lots of money buddy

best bet is do the following before you chase figures

fit coilovers

upper and lower s3 brace

rear arb

poly bushing

tip and cai

ful turbo back exhaust

front mount intercooler

then a stage 2 mapping should be fine you will enjoy it

Wow. Best part of 5k to do it properly then... I didn't realise it would cost near that - again thanks for the advice I'll definatley think on this as I don't fancy waiting 12 months to get everything I want where as I could get that second list in half the time.

I should have realised what a tip was..!

Thanks lads, I ever meet you an event I owe you a beer..!

I sure it could have been done cheaper, but I've just spent over £2k getting to stage 2!

can be done cheaper if you use second hand parts but this alone has its issues

you could just do the turbo conversion and not do lsd cucpension brakes etc etc but it would be completly pointless as you will have the power but the car cant put it down

buying second hand

hybrid ( very rarely for sale ) £500

custom mapping ( has to be new ) £500

front mount £500 ( cheap one dont work)

injectors £100

fuel pump £100

3 inch maf £40

tip pipe £100

exhaust ( be lucky if a full system is for sale) £200 to 400

still not cheap is it really ???

imo the best way to spend the money on these is to really sort the suspension, steering, polybushing, rear arb, good tyres, good brakes

build a base and then move up in the power world imo

Out of interest, cant the badger bill mod be done to the manifold for this power, rather than going down the JBS route?

Also, why do people go for K03s' rather than GT28's?

think it can be, whats the cost of bill flowing a stock mani,

i have driven a gt2860rs (on a 1.9 modded 20vt) this week, and confirm it is......awesome, i dont really want the ko3s now, it does really require a 1.9 however.....

Don't we also need new con rods if going over 300ft/lb ?

its a good idea...

To put my tuppence in. While I agree with the guys that in an ideal world you would go all the way and spend spend spend!. You can still end up with a very good car for a lot less than that.

Mine did cost well over £6K to mod due to the IHI but the brakes are standard but with EBC pads and Disks and unless you are on and off them all the time (track day) they are fine for fast road use even with 325bhp.

Also the LSD isn't needed either, I don't have one and have no problems getting the power down. I had one on my old 325i and it was good but not a night/day difference in the way I drove the car anyway.

I do agree that you need to sort your suspension though, I drove a normal VRS without the KW3s, RARB and braces.......it wasn't good. Also the tyres are bloody important.

£6k is alot to spend making a vRS faster! Especially when £6.5k gets you an E39 M5!

Lol, i disagree hofmeister on 2 counts, the brakes calipers are not up to 325 bhp, they are 1 pot and just dont have consistent braking power, if you think they are up to it you are not driving fast enough ;)

try driving a car with four or six pots on....you will see the difference.

Also 325bhp is going to be a struggle to apply without a diff, again try a vrs with a diff, the difference is like night and day...and your car WILL be far better as a result for having one, no question.

i disagree aswell standard calipers and over 300bhp you dont drive hard enough lol

and if you havent driven one with an lsd you might want to( it amazing the difference) . infact i would go all out and say a well setup 230bhp stage 2 with suspension and brakes and lsd would be quicker than your ihi for sure around a track and fast road driving :smirk:

why do you think cupra 225 came standard with brembo 4 pots????

whilst i totally agree about tyres its amazing the amount of people that drive high powerd cars that have cost them ££££ yet they put on the cheapest ditch finders lol never understood that one.

+1

You'd be a nutter not to upgrade your brakes, even with sub 200bhp.

+1 too, to handling improvement before power increase

If you really want to put down power, you need 4x4

you got to drive it more than me !

Power delivery is in a different class to a KOxx

snowmuncher please come visit me now lol i want a passenger lap

B) it was rather sweeeeet

its had to go back into the garage to have the boost pipework strengthened ... things popping off when the turbo's spooled too fast :giggle:

lol all good

p.s what rpm is it coming in at????

road trip next year once i get the evo me you oet etc etc

I hate u all. Don't any spins in quick cars over here.

Must call over and Shevlin what all the fuss is about.

Want to be convinced I need all this power in my life. My skud and my mk1 golf. Sounds fun

lol all good

Apparently its not reaching full boost until 4K, but starts pulling strongly from 2.5K, and increasely goes mental

Not really been able to test just how fast it can really spool, 'cos the pipework pops off @ 3-3.5K if you apply the gas too fast.

New pipework being fabricated at the mo.

The GSS340 fuel pump I got with the engine was duff too, so was running on the stock one, so an impact there too.

A roadtrip could be fun

Dont forget Graham that if you ever come over the bridge I really, really, really need a go :D :D Why should Luca have all the fun ?

... Why should Luca have all the fun ?

'cos he helped me with a 10+ hour driving mission round devon, and then onto Kent ;)

I got to drive my car for about 15mins-20mins, he got to drive it for about 1.5 hours :envy: ...
