'cos he helped me with a 10+ hour driving mission round devon, and then onto Kent emoticon-0105-wink.gif

I got to drive my car for about 15mins-20mins, he got to drive it for about 1.5 hours emoticon-0132-envy.gif ...

Why did you drive from Devon to Kent?

Why did you drive from Devon to Kent?

lol how very true!!!!

you have some nice roads near you Karl, i love mid wales, still i think Devon trumps even wales for quiet roads though!!!

Haha I knew some of you would go off at me saying that ;)

Lol, i disagree hofmeister on 2 counts, the brakes calipers are not up to 325 bhp, they are 1 pot and just dont have consistent braking power, if you think they are up to it you are not driving fast enough ;) try driving a car with four or six pots on....you will see the difference. Also 325bhp is going to be a struggle to apply without a diff, again try a vrs with a diff, the difference is like night and day...and your car WILL be far better as a result for having one, no question.

I'm not saying that 4 or 6 pots are not better, of course they are and I had 4 pots on my Corrado VR6 (235bhp), what i am saying is that if you are building a quick car on a budget then the £700+ you are looking at for the 4 pots inst essential. The car will be fun without them......mine is!

i disagree aswell standard calipers and over 300bhp you dont drive hard enough lol and if you havent driven one with an lsd you might want to( it amazing the difference) . infact i would go all out and say a well setup 230bhp stage 2 with suspension and brakes and lsd would be quicker than your ihi for sure around a track and fast road driving :smirk: why do you think cupra 225 came standard with brembo 4 pots????whilst i totally agree about tyres its amazing the amount of people that drive high powerd cars that have cost them ££££ yet they put on the cheapest ditch finders lol never understood that one.

Again, Westallc I would class you as a "what ever it takes" enthusiast in that you go all the way regardless of cost as you do all your own work. What I am saying is if you are building a fast car on a budget then the £1000+ cost of a diff is not essential. I had an LSD on my on 325i (E30) and it was wicked with RWD but if you are trying to keep the costs down, it isn't essential.

I'm not some numpty saying they are not great mods ;) just that if big power is the goal then they are not needed, if a fast track car is the goal then I agree....better to have these than the big turbo.

no i deffo not a whatever it takes person

far from it 90% of all performance parts i had on my car where second hand and brought cheap

im on lots of forums and you would be shocked at some of the prices ive paid for items.

the difference is i save lots by doing all the work myself built not brought has that little bit more satisfaction if you do the work yourself.

question is why have big power and not be able to use it might look good on a dyno printout but pointless on the road imo

also why buy a bt car that your not going to track ??? again that seems completly pointless where can you use the 300 bhp you got ????

i guess yours is slightly different as it was brought like it so not a project if that makes sense as if it was a project and you research about whats the best way to build a fast road car a diff would have been high on the list or i hope it would be ( that doesnt have to be new i paid a few £££'s for a fully rebuilt box with uprated syncro's + diff + vrg clutch and g60 flywheel + fully fitted bargains are there to be had!!!!!

p.s £700 for 4 pots look around you can get good brake setup i.e brembo big reds + big discs around £300 to £500

or you can go even cheaper find a breakers with a bmw 7 series fronts are brembos and 330 discs and with the right adapter they fit ( £50 to £70 for calipers from scrapyard)

the problem is a lot of people have to buy new this new that!!!!!!! if they spent 5 minutes looking in the right place there is always performance parts going very cheap.

Problem is when you don't have time to go scouring for parts, I run a business and work pretty much 12 hours a day. When I used to be into Corrados, I build 2 modified ones and spent loads of time researching parts and hunting down second hand bargains......was good fun but saps time.

You are right about mine, I bought it as is......some bits were knackered and I've spent about a grand on it putting them right but the IHI conversion is so good that the car could have come like this OEM. Also I tend to use the car as a motorway cruiser, as did most of the previous owners (it covered 30K in a year in 2008) so 300 Bhp can be very good fun on Motorways and A roads ;)

what's the badger bill mod on the exhaust manifold?

he just hones out the standard manni but its getting really good results and only £40

does he just do the collectors or does he do other bits as well?

bill charges 1.5 hrs labour at £45 + vat for the manifold porting, its almost £100.as long as there is nothing wrong with the manifold in the first place.cracks that need welding, really poor casting that needs grinding = more time/work/money.theres a thread on scn at the mo in the badger 5 section, good pictures and he clears loads of material from both ends of the manifold.

I just read a post on scn that says the work made no difference on the dyno?

really from the logs ive seen it works

dont get to hung up on dyno's look at the airflow logs etc etc thats where you will see the difference

Sounds decent then - I dont chase bhp anyway
