vRS - Heater - not working

Featured Replies

well the heater is not blowing at all, it started a few weeks ago just after we had the clutch replaced.

Now it started 1 & 2 werent blowing any air through at all, 3 & 4 were working but not as they should more like position 1 & 2 but when car was put into reverse they starting blowing faster??

now they have all stopped working alltogether?

Anyone any ideas at all or similar problems??

Thanks

Blowing faster in reverse is normal - it goes into recirc mode to stop you sucking in exhaust gases!

As for your main problem, your resistor pack has gone - as it happens mine did as well last week, so I did a guide:

Probably worth replacing the cabin filter while you're down there, if you think the fan's not blowing hard enough - not every garage replaces them when they should...

When you put the car into reverse the flaps move around to put it into recirc mode. The noise increases but the fans shouldn't change speed.

As well as the resistor pack, try removing the pollen filter and checking it. It shouldn't be particularly dirty, soaking wet or full of leaves. After removal, stick an old blanket or sheet in the footwell and stick the blower on full.

right it finally gave up altogether so i changed the heater resistor a bit fiddly but got there in the end and still no heater at all.. its just nit working on any of the settings anymore..

Any Ideas?

Thanks

Mark

If it was the heater resistor that had failed, I believe the fan would still have worked on speed 4 as the fan just uses full power which bypasses the resistor.

If none of the fan speeds are working have you checked the fuses? That should be a first point of call for all electric problems, unless you have good reason to suspect otherwise.

If all is fine then you may need to check the electrical connections on the blower motor behind the dash and possibly replace the motor if the connections were fine, these aren't easy jobs to do as they will require stripping the interior dash.
