Octavia II - DSG Gearbox overheating

Featured Replies

I've just been on a track day in my newly ECU upgraded Octy vRS and the DSG gearbox seems to overheat after about 3 laps of a 2km circuit....?

I will admit, I am pushing her to the limit in S mode and down shifting into the corners, but the car has only done 5,000kms and the oil cant be too worn, surely!

This problem will happen when the oil temp jumps from around 115ºC to 125ºC then the cutout and trademark warning lights.

Has anyone else had these kinds of problems?

Should treat this as a serious problem or is it just my vRS being a crybaby?

Not heard of overheating. Depending on the age of the car, there was a recall on the DSG box due to a faulty sensor that could cause you to lose drive because the car thought the gearbox had overheated when in fact it has not.

I wouldnt use S mode on a track, I would use the manual controls (move lever left from D position) and control the gear changes myself, that way you minimise the gearchanges.

Its also possible your remap is putting to much torque through the DSG box causing clutch slip and heat build up which is very bad for the transmission and you'll kill it no time. The DSG clutches are complex and difficult to replace. My superb has a DSG friendly remap that keeps peak torque lower than normal, but it holds it longer.

See this when clutches were slipping on DSG-remapped Audi TT's. Will kill the box in short order if not attended to.

I've only had it 2 months, it's a 2009 model, bought new from the dealer.

I think I'll have to get the tuning guys to deactivate the program, then take it into the dealer under warranty.

Thanks for the advice mate, very much appreciated!

I hope I haven't thrashed the gearbox too much.

Here's hoping anyway.
