just saying hello (Vrs or VRS)

Featured Replies

Greetings to the great and the good,

As a family we are currently on our fifth Skoda (2 favorits, 1 felicia (still got), 1 Fabia Vrs(recently removed) and 1 Octavia L&K 110 estate (Vrs replacement, needed dog space) This brings me neatly on to how I found this site, I am Bored after loosing the fabia (which was actually the wifes car(my toy) and am languishing in the felicia, So the point for debate is should I buy a new Fabia Vrs or Octavia Vrs? running costs are not an issue FUN is (and peeving Porsche owners up motorway slip roads!). I've just tested A 'tavia but thought maybe it lacked the neck snapping torque of the diesel and being larger not quite as pointy, if you know what I mean but test run was not as long as I had with the Fab. Thouhgts please

I'm no expert, but the Octy's where the true performance is. The Fabia (like mine) excels against its peers, but wouldn't worry a Porsche if the Porsche driver was bothered about you beating him.

If you're into modding, however, that's a different matter. Look at Ross Clarke's Fabia, for example!

Agreed. A breathed on Fabia will trouble a lot of, if not all the hot hatches, but a tweeked Octavia will take it further.

If you are in no hurry, wait for the Octavia vRS replacement due next year. It should be even better than the new Golf GTi which everyone is raving about.

By the look on his face he was very bothered, and by the way his car dissapeared BACKwards in the Fabs mirror I guess in his haste (tantrum) he selected the wrong gear when trying to do something about it!

There's no doubt that Fabias are fast, and probably "feel" faster than an Octavia. Here are some figures, though, which suggest that Octavias are just a bit faster off the line.

Oh, don't get me wrong - recent scalps in my (completely standard) Fabia vRS include an S3, a Mitsubishi 3000GT, a Focus ST170 and any number of chaved-up Saxos, Corsas, Escorts, etc. I think the performance is an even split between the mid-range torque giving awesome in-gear acceleration, and the 'stealth factor' of driving a seemingly innocent little Skoda, which catches drivers off-guard :D

On the other hand, I've been enormously embarrassed by a Porsche Carrera Turbo and a Nissan Skyline GTR, obviously being driven by people who were in the right gear, etc.

You win some, you lose some. I'd have bought an Octy if I could afford one, but the performance of the Fabia is more than a match for my limited driving ability... :)

Motorway slip roads in 3rd gear in the Octy are fun................. :D:D:D:D

Anywhere is fun in 3rd gear in my Octy now,and then 4th and then 5th,after that they've had a bit of a shock!!!

Some of us have to struggle by with only 180bhp :finger:
