Estate coutesy light switch

Featured Replies

Anyone know where the light switch is for the estate, rear interior lights. Mine are one all the time.

I dont't know if your model year is the same as mine but the light switch is part of the clear lens of each light. Push on the finger depression on the light's lens. Each side has its own light with integral switch. They are not linked and also not controlled by the door being open nor connected with the front interior lights. My guess is that someone has simply turned yours on by presing on the light(s).

As Mike says, my 2001 behaves the same way.

Yep same as my 2002, just push on or off - would be nice if they worked with the doors though

It's a mod I keep meaning to do. I can't see it being that difficult, just a bit of fiddling with wires behind the roof lining.

The door-controlled feed for the interior light comes direct from the CCU (Central Convenience Unit) so I would be wary of adding extra load.

Mine seems OK. I did this mod over 12 months ago. If you are concerned about overloading the convenience unit, the rear bulbs could perhaps be replaced with LED equivalents to keep the current down.

Is the Octavia CCU the same as for a MkIV Golf?

They all have door operated rear courtesy lights as standard, so it should be up to the job.

I found the switch, its built into the catch inside the tailgate. I couldn't be bothered to try and repair so I replaced it with a 'mercury' type level switch, so it comes on when the tailgate is lifted.

Oh, you meant the boot lights, not the rear passenger lights.....

So how do you go about doing this mod then? My rears already have leds so I'm half way there :giggle:

I just ran a wire along either side of the headlining to the front courtesy light and joined them into the wire that was switched with the doors (switched earth I think, but check before you do it just in case  ). At the rear lamp end I disconnected and insulated the earth wire from the car (again check in case my memory is going) and re-connected the new switched earth wire from the front light.

The only problem is that you now can't have the rear lights on unless one of the doors is open. I keep meaning to have a look to see if the rear lamps from a MkIV Golf can be fitted as they have a 3 position switch and I have all of the wiring in place to use them. Just need to see if they will fit with the Octy grab handles.
