Steamy windows

Featured Replies

Unfortunately not for the right reasons  , anyway the AC doesn't help much to get rid of it this year, very slow to clear and the rear windows stay fogged. As far as i know the AC is working. Any ideas?

Only that your AC is not working as well as you think or there is some damp in the car?

Your pollen filter could be bunged up, therefore not letting enough air into the car to air it.

Is your boot jammed full of stuff blocking boot vents?

Where are these vents? I usually have a cargo net slung across the rear for storing shopping bags, brollies and minor shoping items.

SWMBO Getz is not misting up now, even with aircon off, after I changed its very dirty pollen filter.

Thanks for the replies. Had a look at the filter and it's quite manky.

check your rear door seals, we had this in my wifes car and the rear door seals were leaking (but no damp areas in the car) open your rear doors and check the lower seal if theres water in it you got a door seal leaking, its quite common on VAG group cars but very easy to fix.

mine was the same. never managed to stop it.

Think I've found the vent holes. Lots of ~1" round holes in the top of the recesses at the widest part of the boot. Not visible unless you crouch down or climb into the boot. BTW how do I unlock the boot from the inside?emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

A quick search will reveal plenty of threads on what is a common problem on the Octavia.

Seems to affect some cars more than others though...

Even from nearly new my Scout takes forever to completely clear with the A/C on and fans on full.

It's getting to that time of year now too when the weather won't help.

The cleaner you keep the insides of your windows the less likely they are to mist up. Plasticisers leach out of the interior and deposit as a film which nucleates water mist. Use a good glass cleaner such as Autoglym and ensure it's completely polished off with a clean cloth. (Have to say I don't always practice what I preach!)

I'm hoping my new Scout doesn't suffer like my old Mk1. If you're still having problems it may be worth just taking it to an aircon specialist to see if your refrigerent gas needs topping up and/or you may have a leak. Mine was particularly bad in Winter as the compressor on the system would cut out below 5 degrees C to protect it from damage, or so I was told. So effectivley no AC. I don't know if the newer Climatronic systems have improved but I hope so.
