Yeti EPC light coming on after 5 to 10 minutes

Featured Replies

The EPC light on our Yeti (1.2 TSi SE, 2WD, 6 months old) has now come on 4 times, with a resulting severe loss of power. On each occasion it has happened within 5 to 10 minutes of starting from cold, the the Maxidot display says "Engine Management Failure". We have stopped as soon as possible and turned the ignition off. After waiting for a couple of minutes, tried starting again and after that no problem - car behaved as normal. We were quite worried the first time it happened!

After it happened for a second time (and near home this time) my wife took the car in to the Skoda dealer we purchased the car from. They looked at the diagnostics from the onboard computer and said it indicated that there had been a problem with the turbo, but to leave it for the moment and see if it happens again.

Since its happened two more times we will take the car in again as soon as its convenient, but I would be interested if anyone else has experienced this problem and what the solution if any is. I tried searching on this forum but didn't find anything.

thanks in advance for any help!

Richard

Hi and welcome,

emoticon-0106-crying.gif to hear your having issues with your Yeti, only issue I'm aware off effected one or two early 1.2TSI's and that I believe was a faulty sensor; hopefully one of the 1.2 Monster owners may know more.

TP

Hi Tim and Richard

I had the light come on a few days after i collected mine it was a softwear problem (to do with the emissions control system) had an update done and it has been fine. yours may have not had the upgrade at the factory because it took a wile to come through you should have had a recall letter though. the loss of power could be the management system switching to get you home mode. can't remember any loss of power when it happened to me though.

I do remember one had a new sensor in the turbo but it may have been just a softwear problem because they done both at the same time.

hope it is the softwear and gets sorted soon

regards Kevin

I have a Fabia 1.2 TSi 105bhp its a 60 plate and the EPC light has come on twice now, solid on just after start and the car has just ground to a halt. When u restsrt the engine all is fine again........ trying to get it booked in to Skoda now

Book it into your local Skoda repair centre, your Yeti will have stored the fault code and they will be able to investigate for you.

I have same problem. I was in my local Skoda service shop few times. First they were saying it is software problem. Until few days ago when they told me that my turbo is dead, and will be replaced. Now I'm waiting for new part to arrive.

7 months with Yeti, 7 months of pleasure when it works and pain when it does not work (more and more often :()

Same problem for me, I've got 1.2TSI. EPC lights and Engine lights shows since last week and now it's in the garage sitting there watiting for the part. They said it needs to change the "turbo" which probably around 3rd August....not very happy at the moment.

not very happy at the moment.

Tae, sorry to hear that you have had problems with your car. Anyway, my opinion is, that you don't need to dig up every possible old thread to tell this, as I noticed that this same writing is at least in three different places in this forum.

Same problem with my Fabia 1.2 TSI (105), When i accelerate yesterday, the turbo vibrate -> EPC lights and Engine lights on the board -> Loss of power, (max speed = 80kmh on the motorway)...

Is it a general problem ? I just bought this car 10 days ago with 24'000km, and the car is from feb 2011

Our Fabia did this a few months ago. It does seem that the 1.2 does not like being re-started after a very short run. Leaving a multi-storey car park the exit barrier was being repaired. So, switched off engine and waited a few minutes. Re-started and drove out into the road and Christmas lights lit up on the dash and we were in limp mode. Made it to a stopping point, switched off. 10 minutes later, re-started and off we went ok. Dealer checked it; guarded reply from them, but nothing found wrong. I suspect they cleared fault codes though.
