Stereo And Hard Drive

Featured Replies

I will hopefully be taking delivery of a New octavia in the near future and am currently in process of sorting music for it.

Can someone help me please. I wish to add an external harddrive via the MDI interface. Does anybody know what the harddrive has to be formatted to ie NTFS or Fat32?

Once done this do I just drag and drop folders onto it and my stereo will then pick it up?

thanks in advance.

Needs to be FAT, and preferably a self powered one, and yes just drap and drop folders of your MP3s onto the HDD and the system will pick them up.

They must be .mp3 or unprotected .wma files, anything else wont play so be carefull if you are using itunes.

Sorry further to last reply I take it thats Fat32.

Thats what you need, eg. not one which has a big separate power supply.

Cheers Mannyo. Thanks For That. One last question Do I have to create playlist or will it realise that my music is by album/folder.

No need for playlists, you browse it on screen as on your PC. the folder structure you get on the headunit is exactly as you set the folders up on your pc.

MDI surely sees the hard drive folder structure exactly as your PC does, yet using playlists is a very welcome feature. I usually listen to my music using the "folder" method, set to "Mix" of course, but many times I want to listen to some playlist of the hundreds I've created and stored in the potrable HDD. I like to remember the old "tape" days in the car.
