boost leak?

Featured Replies

Jase I'd rather get a 2nd hand fmic than pay that.

See a few side mount ones on eBay but say there for an a3 1.9tdi and octavia says nothing about the fabia

yeah same smic

supose they just havent fitted one to a fabia yet

most of the companies that do them are from the states? is there a vrs over there?

tbh i ran the seat sport fmic and it drove me bonkers i must have had about 10 boost leaks in not even 12 months

i was forever replace pipes that had rubbed on something or other

drove me insane

was half the reason i got rid

ibiza top intercooler plastic pipe cracked

silicone off turbo rubbed on driveshaft and split

reducer rubbed off aircon radiator and split

45 silicone rubbed on aircon pipe behind headlight and split

But the forge fitting kit would fit for the vrs with the seat fmic fine ?

But the forge fitting kit would fit for the vrs with the seat fmic fine ?

probaly yeah

my fmic was mounted lower than others and i utilised the top ibiza pd160 pipe

was just a ball ache

im not really a fan of the forge stuff either its all aluminium - i know its to do with heat transfer but a good ol' bit of stainless wouldn't go a miss

Vrs Dovit knows a guy who makes up stainless pipes but no idea of a rough price for the stuff to be made plus the forge kit comes with everything I need

yeah just follow that guide and you'll not be far wrong

Does the passat intercooler fit my car there are a few on eBay ranging from £15 to £80 all used.

I've no idea what will fit and what won't, anyone fancy taking a quick look and seeing if u can see a good used one that I can get ?

Wife says NO to fmic but added a few extra words before and after no but I can't repeat such badness

Anything will fit, just depends how much work you dont mind doing. Plenty fit St intercoolers, ebay joobies, and all sorts but it involves measuring and getting things made up etc. I choose to just get something i knew fitted fairly easy, and as a bonus, its feckin huge.

lol suppose not jase, lots of cheap ones on eBay looks like I'll get a golf 1.8t one there's loads :)

One day I'll get my fmic

its not all about a huge cooler btw...its a good balance of size, bigger = more lag but great cooling, smaller cooler = less cooling but less lag!

back to the SMIC, just keep your eyes peeled for one, or phone up some local scrap yards - also keep an eye in the parts for sale section on here - maybe put up a wanted thread?

I'v noticed no more lag with the seat sport? Can't be that bad, else they'd not fit them to Ibiza cupras.

Noticeable or not, there will be more lag over the standard SMIC as its physically got more space to fill, im not making it up, its fact, ur not going to lose 2k in lag, but there will certainly be some.

I knew there was a reason I'd been to university:

Bigger I/C = more lag

FACT

haha thats enough to confuse everyone! :giggle: I do love a good fact in the morning.

He said it was rubbing off of something, I'm getting a 2nd opinion from a Skoda mechanic tomorrow it's a friend of a friend.

If I do go down the fmic route would I need the egr delete kit too?

Take it I'm safe to drive with my intercooler hissing? I might upgrade my AA membership to include repairs

It's probably the shroud that fits between the IC and the bumper that's rubbing. I noticed mine had started to wear into the alloy a bit so I just trimmed it a bit in that area with a sharp knife. I also had a leak at the top of the intercooler where there was a small crack. Only managed to find it by pressurising it and putting it in water to see a small stream of bubbles leaking out. Managed to repair it with some 2-part chemical metal stuff. Might be worth a go on yours if it's still a problem.
