Servicing Costs

Featured Replies

My wife's Fabia 100bhp pdi is due for it's first service and like many others I'm appalled at the quoted costs for 1 1/2 hours work. The car's only done 6000 miles in the year and the quotes from authorised dealers are between

WTF I have been quoted

WTF I have been quoted

The local VW dealer refused to quote saying that "..... there's an agreement between VAG franchises that they won't work on each other's cars".

That would be highly illegal' date=' Report that to the local trading standards office.

Shop around, the prices quoted are exorbitant. You must live in a very affluent area.....

Or DIY?

6000 miles per year in a PD is not a very sensible (i.e. economical) combination....

Service costs (Fabia) according to Skoda Business sales

I've been shopping around for my 70k recently. There are two types of minor service and this is what I've gleaned: a "lube" service and a "lube and inspection" service. The lube one is just an oil change and is around 80 quid. The lube and inspection involves checking all the levels' date=' tyre pressures, tyre condition, etc and is about 165-200 quid (or more!). The recommendation is that you should have an annual inspection service carried out, so if you're going to have one service a year, you're looking at the "lube and inspection" for minor services.

So why have they quoted

Yes - I had the inevitable argument with 3 dealers over the type of service required. They were all adamant that the car needs a main service at 12 months OR 20,000 miles. None of them would do just an oil and filter change. An oil change service is carried out at 10,000 miles if this mileage is reached before 12 months. One service manager even told me that, because the car had done such a low mileage, it was even more important that a main service was carried out! I sense a rip-off!

So why have they quoted

Yep I will get on the phone again to them.

Well I have just been told by them that it is a yearly service and not a 10,000 mile lube so it's going to cost

Yerr Right I feel my pants being pulled down LOL

Why do you think they call it a "lube" service? :D

Lube me up Baby

So I've just cost you an extra 60 quid :o Oh well! Interestingly' date=' my dealer was the other way round and was insisting I needed an annual service rather than just an oil change, but I soon beat him down ;):D

Yes and no really. But that's another story ;)

Surely the service content and times are the same for all dealers, the key difference is their respective hourly rates.

On the South Coast from east of Brighton to Chichester we now have one multi-site dealership who charge

An update!

I hadn't realised that there is a fairly local SEAT dealer after all. They quote

I have just had 2 quotes from main dealers in Northern ireland for a 20k service on my Octy 1.9TDI the results are as follows:

Checked price and was told that I'd been quoted for the petrol engined service by mistake! The price for the diesel is 'about'

Did they explain why servicing the diesel was more expensive?!

Rob.

Yes 'The special oil used in diesels is far more expensive than the oil for petrol engines'

Load of rubbish, of course when you consider that Valvoline 505.01 is about
