What octavia to go for?

Featured Replies

I'm the first to say use search and I've done a bit of research on here but would like some pointer/help and info if possible.

The old man is thinking of getting a mk1 Octavia as he has finally seen how good the skoda's are now days.

He would like a TDi estate but the budget at the moment will not extend that far so I've been looking at the following a 1.8SLX auto estate with about 130k on the clock. What are the boxes like for reliabilty? Any major problems I should look out for?

I would say the budget is around the £800 mark at the moment any other models worth looking at?

Thanks

For that money you'd want a diesel really!

Not sure how the auto boxes cope but theres a few taxis/ex taxis on here with way over 200k, pretty sure one had 320k on it and was still going strong.

No massive issues, just general stuff really, been looked after and regularly serviced etc etc

diesel would be the first choice but trying to find one in estate form is harder than I first though, most command a good price unless you look towards a SDi with large mileage. Autobox would be an extra bonus.

Only thing is that I don't think an auto box would last as long but they might.. just going by my experience with other cars

I wouldn't be fussy with mileage providing a respectable service history

Auto box won't be a bonus, Get a manual far more reliable, & economical.

if it was my choice then yes manual would be better but the old man has been looking at auto's laterly as I think as much as he wont admit it his knee is playing him up. So the VAG autobox is just as reliable as "most" autobox's

Thanks guys
