Spring assisters

Featured Replies

Have just bought a new caravan max weight 1326klg, have Elegance 140 dsg 55 plate, Skoda say's max weight 1400klg. Now my towball max weight is 75klg and the caravan nose weight is 80 klg so will have to transfer some load to the rear. Question is do Skoda do any spring assistors for the octy or anything like that ?..

I've just bought some Mad spring assistors for my scout:

I carry a huge amount of kit in my boot for my job and the normal springs aren't up to the job. The assistors sit inside the standard springs and give them a helping hand. Only arrived today so I don't know how easy they are to fit but reports say that it's at 30min job

We tow a 1350kg van with our octy vrs and i fitted some grayston spring assisters and they are mint, it doesnt alter the ride height when you havnt got the van on but when the van is on it only drops the rear by about a inch. well recommend them it also stops the rear of the car from pitching when the van is on. If my memory serves me correct they only cost about £28.00.

Looks like these are rather popular. Have just fitted them to my Octavia VRS estate for the same reason as I carry a lot of spares for my job.

Fitting took about an hour. This was by the side of the road not in the garage . If you can get hold of a second jack it is easier. I used my trolly jack to raise the car up and the car jack with a piece of 3 x 2 wood to raise the arm to realign arm when replacing the bolt .

An 18mm spanner will be required to undo the nut as a socket will not fit. A socket fits ok on the bolt head. I decided to replace the bolt and locking nut. Part number for nut is10106402 HEX.NUT and the Bolt is 10610702 BOLT HEX.

The torque setting is 90nm + 90degrees.

I spoke to MAD today about getting some of these for my Octy VRS and they said that they couldnt be used as it would jack up the car too high. Did you fit the blue ones? Did they alter the height of the vehicle at all?

Now on my second vRS, have towed with both of them. With 70 - 75Kg noseweight (1310KG 'van) I have not felt the need for spring assisters. Outfit sits nice and level and the ride is fine. Have used donuts on other cars in the past - easy to fit and seem to provide some benefit. No experience of MAD springs though.

My 'van rode nose down with my 09 vRS but level with the new one ... but this is down to the towbar on the new one being higher (Witter on this one, Brink on the old one).

Would be interested to hear if the vRS owners found and improvement to stability after the fitting of assisters ... having said that though they are very very stable without (though my current 'van has Alko ATC so this no doubt helps).

Fitted the blue springs. It lifted the back by 20mm when estate is empty but keeps it level when loaded with all my spares. As I have weight in the back 95% of time this is not a problem. Very pleased with them.

still not got around to fitting mine yet... Looks like an easy job - did you find it ok to do?

It was easy, done it by side of road, If you can get two trolly jacks its very easy, You definatley need the second jack, I used a trolly jack and the car jack and a piece of wood.
