Fan running on after switching off on new Scout

Featured Replies

Not going to panick just wondered if this is something anyone had heard off on new octavia's.

This is 3rd time I have returned home after a 15 / 20 mile trip at normal speeds and on switching the car off the fans have gone into over time. The fans have continued for about 3/4 minutes which seems a bit odd on a cold November night. Do I need to take it to the garage?

Sounds about right to me, remember when you switch the engine off the mechanical water pump stops working to coolant temps rise, the fan helps to stop the temp rising out of control.

I am new to Skoda ownership and not hear thison my vRS, but it happens all the time on my Cossie, so I wouldn't think its anything to worry about unless the temp gauge is always reading hot.

Sounds a little strange to me.

I'd expect the fans to run on on a hot summers day but not a November night.

Diesel or petrol?

Me too, unless it's been thrashed out of it's life.

If it's a diesel this happens when the DPF is still regenerating when you switch off.

No problem.

If it's a petrol there's probably something wrong with it.

It is a diesel and not been thrashed just driven at normal speed, oh no not this DPF thingy ma bob that I hear every one talking about on here!

Time of the year makes little difference, and engine gets to 90+ degrees all year around, the cooling system and thermostat etc manage this. However as soon as the engine is switched off that stops and the temp goes up as water is no longer being circulated. Its why now we have seen the introduction of secondary electric coolant pumps and electronic dual thermostats to a lot more than the performance models that they used to feature on.

Yes, but when the engine and cooling system is turned off, on a hot summers day the temperature under the bonnet is much more likely to increase rapidly to a point which would require cooling from the fans.

At this time of year the engine temperature is unlikely to increase to a point that would require the fans to run after the engine has been shut off, unless as mentioned the car had been driven hard.

The fans on my diesel Scout have never run on after the engine has been turned off that I am aware of.

I'd just keep an eye on it and mention it when you drop it off for it's next service

Yes its worth getting it looked at.

But also worth mentioning there are several different typres of fan arrangements on the Octavia 2, twin fan, single fan, single, twin and triple stage units and some will work in different ways to others.
