Just wondering when people are gonna fit their winter tyres.

and if you have themon now how is the wear?

Thanks

Andy

Too early imo

I put mine on last week. Winter tyres work best below 7o and it is definitely below that when I go to work in the morning. The maximum daytime temperatures might well be around 10o at the moment, but come home time it's dark and getting colder again. They are aso better in the rain than summer tyres. No reason why you couldn't drive with winter tyres all year round if you wanted to, just like most people drive with summer tyres all year round, although I'll just be using mine over the winter.

Also what are people running/going to run?

Premium, mid range or economy winter rubber?

I got a set of genuine porsche twists for winter. Not exactly a nice narrow wheel for the snow, but look well and mean I wont have to keep polishing my comps over winter:D

Got pirelli pirelli p zero nero 195/40/17 tyres.. But need two new tires so any suggestions be appreciated..

It depends.... I'd say if you live in a colder part of the UK and are noticing regular frosts in the morning, it would be better to have them on now. If you live in the Scilly Isles, don't bother, as you're still growing coconuts. :)

Mine are on now..Have been since the last week in October.

You can run winters all year...Its a common misconception that you cant

The rubber is softer.

BUT... in high temperatures, the wear rate will be greater.

Grip is still good in the dry but not the best

Autumn through to the end of Spring..No problem at all!!

If the max temp is around 10c, you could put them on now. Depends were you live. It's been 3c here recently, with max daytime temps of around 7-10, so I'd have had mine on by now.

On Monday it was 3 degrees C and raining heavily. My summer tyres were really bad, spinning on a perfectly smooth & clean road in 3rd and momentarily in 4th gear.

If had the money, i'd be changing to winter tyres now!

This is really simple to answer:

Fit them when the temperature is consistently at 7 degrees (or lower) for when the car will be driven, for someone who does a lot of driving in the dark then this will be considerably earlier than someone only using the car during daylight hours, there is no set date to change them - you change them when the conditions call for them to be fitted.

THANKS guys.

Fitted them on monday night. As it is going to be cold

here in saddleworth on the pennines. We had some snow on monday.

Very slippery at first but now done about 100 miles and were

very grippy at 1.0c this morning.

Would advise anyone to get them.

I'd agree with all of that, I live in Southern Scotland and will probably wait until the end of the month (weather permitting) - and its Michelin Apin A3 that I use on my wife's Polo, cant remember that exact size but for winter I've dropped down to 14" steel wheels - 185/65 ? (maybe).
