TYRES yet again

Featured Replies

Hi

As one who has been underwhelmed, bedazzled, confuddled, and unconvinced I have found this site to be invaluable. I dont recall having seen it on Briskoda, so it might be of use to some others who are dithering also.

The site is http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk where every make of tyre is reviewed, as you'd expect.

I hope it helps some, as it has helped me

Yes I saw this, helped me form an opinion about going for the Continental TS830 before seeing the AutoExpress tests (which it now includes) on a price/performance basis, although some of the results are a little contradictory.

Mytyres have exploded the myth of German efficiency for me, cocking up delivery as well as the fitting of two of the TS 830 tyres to the rims supplied in the wrong orientation. The TS830 is a unidirectional tyre so they have to be fitted in pairs to match direction of rotation on left and right side of the car, so you can not swap sides around without removing and refitting the tyres (which I must admit I did not realise and it would have influenced my decision). If you choose to buy from Mytyres ... well good luck to you.

Good site, ive used it previously.

I had the total opposite experience with Mytyres - absolutely faultless service - had the steels and tyres delivered within 4 days of ordering (estimate was 10 days) and they were faultlessly packaged too. :)

I have used both wedsites and both are excellent.

MyTyres.com were very efficient when sending my 'winters' with a good tracking system and I will definitely use them again.

Well you were lucky then.

First of all they placed two tracking numbers on the same wheel and tyre so only three were delivered.

Secondly they paid no attention to the correct fitting of the unidirectional tyres, meaning that there would be less grip and stopping performance

on one side of the car, with obvious safety and legal implications.

A web search found found I'm not the only one to have had problems. I wonder how many unsuspecting owners are driving on wrongly fitted

unidirectional tyres!

Hi Jeep , my experience with Mytyres was not good either with issues on the order with delays and requests to fax personal details (Data protection seems not to be an issue for them). The tyres plus steel wheels I ordered were suddenly no longer available once the initial issues were sorted out and price of alternatives offered had risen so I think "order problems" may have been a delaying tactic due to demand or price changes.

The call centre were not good to deal with. I only made one call to them but the person I spoke to gave the impression they could not care less. I tried to call back several times but as soon as I keyed in the requested order number it was engaged so I cancelled the order some eight days after my initial Web order. Looking at other Web reviews on Mytyres my experience was by no means unique.

I know many people on this forum have not had any problems with Mytyres. Maybe I was unlucky but, based on my personal experience with this company I would be reluctant to recommend them.

I re-ordered my tyres and rims from Tyremen based in the UK at Hull and they were excellent to deal with. They also had a good wesite where you can view rims on most models of cars to see how they look including the Yeti.

Four tyres and rims delivered in two working days. All four unidirectional tyres correctly orientated on the rim and balanced with the same Vedredestein tyres I had tried to order from Mytyres. The tyre price was also lower than Mytyres and delivery half the price.

I got fed up with waiting for a response from Mytyres on them organising a local supplier to refit two of the tyres in the correct orientation. So took them to the local fitters who did it there and then for £15.00. I'm sure for some Mytyres provide a good service but when things go wrong they are difficult to communicate with and unhelpful. Thankfully the delivery service had only scanned three tracking numbers, so it was obvious one wheel and tyre were missing, although one wheel also had the missing item tracking number on it also. I received an unconvincing apology. I used Paypal so a complaint to them might result in some form of compensation for wasted time, effort and money - unlikely. And of course I will post reviews of their 'performance' on the web.
